Angie's Publishing a Book!

In the beginning

I started "Run" unofficially when I was in my teens (that's 20 years ago, kids). I'd toy with the world and some of the characters on and off and that was it. In 2005 I wrote an abridged draft, but it was severely lacking in depth. Finally, in 2016, after years of starting, stopping, and starting again, I sat down and wrote the entire book.  Now, it's finished and, after several positive reviews, I'm on to the next step of self publishing.

Why self publishing?

Mostly because I retain full creative control over my work. Also because the idea of sending off a manuscript to a publisher to be read along with hundreds or even thousands of others is just not something I want to deal with. If I self publish, I get my book out to the masses without the middleman.

This means everything is my responsibility. Editors, cover artists, formatters, even advertising is all on me to manage and pay for, but it results in me getting a higher cut of book sales (around 70%) as opposed to most of it going to the publisher.

So, what's this paying for?

The funds will be going toward copyright costs, cover art and formatting.  My cover artist is damonza.com and they offer a cover art/formatting package for both paper back and ebook for a little over $800. Factoring in the bit that gofundme takes for themselves, and prizes, I figure $900 is a nice, round number. If I earn more than my goal, the excess funds will go toward the publication of my next books.

How soon do I need the cash?

Not for a while. The book is still out for editing and revisions and I don't look to publish till late winter/early spring of 2018. Let's say by February.

What your donation means

I don't look to become rich and famous. I don't want to be the next great thing. It would be cool if that happened, but I'm not holding my breath. What I do want, is for people to get the chance to read and enjoy my work as much as I do. But I can't do that on a data-drone salary. That's where you come in. By donating, you'll help me get my book out to the masses and you'll be helping me take my first big leap into authordom.

So, what's this book about?

To clarify, "Run" is a novel geared toward young adults and upward. The drawing used on this page is not the cover art. With that out of the way, here's a brief synopsis of the book:

"Living on a military base is the worst. At least that's what 13-year-old Paige Bryan believes. After her parents accept a job researching the emerging sentience in the country's robotic population, Paige learns that life at Fort Thomas may be more interesting than she thinks. Especially after she befriends Alpha, the base's synthetic Director of Operations, and Monarch, a no-nonsense cat-lady.

But when soldiers start to malfunction, and a strange little girl arrives, Paige soon finds herself swept up in a mystery that, left unsolved, may mean the end of the already fragile peace between humans and synthetics."

If this sounds like something you or someone you know might enjoy, please consider donating.

But wait! There's more!

Everyone who donates at least $10 from now till Monday 11-26 will get a $5 giftcard to Starbucks on top of your donation prize!
