Evelyn is a beautiful 7-month-old sweet little baby girl with an invasive, large brain tumor that can only be partially removed through surgery. She is likely going to need multiple surgeries, radiation, and other treatments. Her family wants to give her the best care possible, which is likely to require some travel and will definitely require time off work. Expenses are already mounting, and they will only climb higher and higher. We are hoping to help in this way so that her family doesn't have to worry as much about money during a time when all of their moments should be spent loving their gorgeous little daughter. Evelyn is their only child. Katie and Nick had to fight so hard to even have her. She is their world.

Katie and Nick experienced loss in pregnancy twice prior to having Evelyn. Katie's first loss was at 22 weeks gestation, due to a fatal neural tube defect. They lost another pregnancy shortly thereafter. Evelyn was closely monitored during her development. She is Katie and Nick's Miracle Baby!

Evelyn had been a happy, healthy, chubby love-muffin her first 6 months, but then problems started to arise. She began to hold her head to one side and seemed uncomfortable when encouraged to straighten it. Then, the vomiting began, especially in the mornings, that would not respond to medication or feeding changes. Evelyn stopped gaining weight at a time when she should be robustly gaining. She interacted less. Her voracious appetite disappeared. Finally, weakness of her left side set in. Evelyn was admitted to Women's and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, NY on Thursday, July 6, 2017. CT scan (and later, MRI) of the brain showed a large, infiltrative, diffuse irregular tumor of Evelyn's brain, involving large portions of her cerebellum and invading her brain stem. The tumor was blocking the flow of her CSF (cerebrospinal fluid), causing increased pressure on her brain; this is what was likely causing Evelyn's vomiting. On July 7, surgery was performed to insert a drain to allow this fluid to drain to alleviate the pressure on her brain. A 3-hour MRI of her entire central nervous system was taken under anesthesia. Luckily, no other tumors were found in her spinal cord. A more invasive surgery to biopsy and "debulk" portions of the brain tumor is planned for Monday, July 10, 2017. Positive thoughts and prayer are needed to get this little girl happy again.

Hello Evie Supporters!

It has been awhile since the last update, so we thought it was time to bring everyone up to speed. Evelyn is a fighter! She has undergone 2 brain tumor surgeries, 2 rounds of "low dose" chemotherapy, 2 rounds of "high dose" chemotherapy, and 2 Stem Cell Infusions. She had another MRI of her brain last week. This last MRI showed no change from the prior scan. The doctors are hoping that this means that the remaining abnormal tissue (a segment that is approximately 1cm long in her brain stem) might be scar tissue. She still has her feeding tube and shunt. Evie was the first patient to undergo surgery at the new Oishei Children's Hospital to change her Shunt and her PIC line.

Evelyn has had her first sled ride, eaten her first teething cookie, and hugged her pups in these recent days!

Evelyn is going to start her next round of high dose chemotherapy on December 26th, 2017, which means she gets to spend Christmas at home! She will then receive another Stem Cell Infusion. Finally, once she recovers from those treatments, she will start a 6 week course of radiation. The radiation should be out-patient treatments.

The family greatly appreciates all of the prayers, positive energy, and love that everyone has shown to them through this journey. It is definitely working!

The Maciags are beginning to see their life beyond the cancer diagnosis and initial treatment. Making plans to be out of the hospital and live their lives in a home is a very exciting prospect that is not so far away! We're almost there!

Let's keep the prayers coming!

THANK YOU!
Evie's personal visit with Santa Claus!

Tomorrow is a big day for the Maciag Family!

First and Foremost, Evelyn will be 10 months old tomorrow! This is an amazing milestone and something to truly celebrate! Please help them celebrate with well wishes and lots of love!

And, what a fitting day to also have the #Elephants4Evelyn Benefit at Town & Country Animal Clinic! Local Evie supporters can come, show their love and support, and maybe win a Basket, hourly 50/50, or "Free Beer for a Year".

Finally, a celebration of another big step toward Evie's wellness. Surgeons were able to remove 75% of the remaining tumor from Evie's brain this past Tuesday. While we all hoped for 100%, it is still reason to be thankful, another step in the right direction.

Tomorrow, let's show them exactly how much we care! Let's lift them up with love, positive energy, and prayer!

Lots of reasons to celebrate! Let's do this!!!
