Andujar Fire Recovery Fund

$19,655 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 381 people in 17 days
[En español abajo] On the morning of Tuesday, February 6, the Andujar family's Jamaica Plain home in Boston, MA caught fire and was completely destroyed. There is a home daycare in the basement. Fortunately, our friend, sister, neighbor and owner of the daycare acted quickly and evacuated the five children and herself. Her husband and two children are also safe. Sadly, they lost their dog of seven years in the fire.

The family is mostly grateful that they and the children from the daycare are safe, but they have lost everything, including their family business, after many years of hard work.

Please help our friends and neighbors to rebuild their lives! Even $5 or $10 will help. Our goal of $25,000 will just begin to help them start over, replace their belongings, help cover housing costs until their home can be rebuilt or they can find other permanent housing, and help them get through the loss of income from the loss of the daycare.

Margarita Acevedo (Andujar) and Daniela Andujar are our dear sisters and members of the Jamaica Plain East Spanish Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

"3-Alarm Fire Causes $1 Million in Damage to Jamaica Plain Home; Day-Care Center Evacuated"

Aun $5 o $10 ayuda bastante.

Margarita wanted to share this message:

“My family and I are very grateful for the community of Jamaica Plain and to all the people from other areas for their help. I’m moved to see how so many people have given from the heart and to see that people show real concern for their neighbors. I’m also grateful to my brothers and sisters in faith. You have all helped us more than you know. Thank you all!”

In loving memory of Princess, who we lost in the fire

Hello all,

A huge THANK YOU to the Jamaica Plain community for all of this support and many thanks to Jamaica Plain News for directing people here with this article: http://www.jamaicaplainnews.com/2018/02/06/help-family-displaced-by-fire-home-daycare-destroyed-and-dog-died/30737

GoFundMe also asked me to post this update with more details about how I am related to the Andujar family and how they will receive the funds. I am a friend and neighbor of Margarita's (the owner of the daycare) and we were in the same congregation for two years. My child went to her daycare for two years and off and on in the summers. Margarita has been without her phone since the fire, so I have been coordinating through her daughter and niece.

Yesterday I set up a separate online fee-free checking account in my name to receive the funds from this campaign after getting an OK from the family. Today I am going to try to add Margarita's name to the account and/or give just her the debit card (once the bank issues one) so she can have easy access to the funds. Feel free to message me with any questions or concerns or if you want to be in touch with other people from the congregation and neighborhood who are coordinating other ways to help.

Thanks to GoFundMe for keeping everyone honest!

We just got to over $5000! In less than 24 hours! Thank you all for this amazing support. It is deeply appreciated. Please continue to share the link if you are able—you can also text it and send it on WhatsApp to people who aren’t on social media.

Margarita and family are surrounded by family and friends right now and currently staying with a niece. She is a very strong person and sounded good on the phone. She says that she is well, very grateful that the children of the daycare are fine, sad about losing their dog, Princess, but that she is fine and asks that people keep her and her family in their prayers.
