Andrew is a regular 12 year old boy. Except that he has cancer. An aggressive cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Hospitalizations and doctors visits have become a way for life for Andrew and his family. He is on a 53 week treatment plan that will then be followed with a year of chemo only once per week.
Andrew's parents and extended family are doing everything possible to give him the care he deserves and needs. While they have good insurance, there is no way they can pay for everything this journey costs. Soon Andrew will add radiation to chemotherapy and commute between 2 hospitals 5 days per week. The medications, travels and treatments alone are mind boggling.
Through it all though, Andrew remains positive and hopeful. His parents are grateful to Turn it Gold, Ohio University, Nationwide Children's Hospital The James Cancer Center, Holzer Health, Ohio Health and Memorial Sloane Kettering doctors. They are thankful for all of Andrew's Avengers who are supporting him. It is because of your constant love and support that Andrew's mood is good and he is winning the fight in kicking cancer's #@!
Please help Andrew continue this fight! They need to focus on providing care while we make donations toward medical expenses, travel, prescriptions and so much more.
THANK YOU,
Debra Rentz, Nicole Capobianco, Wendy (Cornwell) Babcock, Elizabeth (Bultman) Jones, Gillian Ice, Amy Toth and all of Andrew's Avengers
PS- please see the educational note about Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer from Andrew and his family:
While the chances of developing rhabdomyosarcoma cancer increases when certain genetic risk factors are present, Andrew has none of these factors. In most of the 354 cases diagnosed each year, the causes of rhabdomyosarcoma remain unknown. The first signs of any sarcoma can be a lump or swelling that gets bigger or just doesn’t go away. In Andrew’s case, he had lumps and hematoma from an accident that masked that cancer’s presence. If you or your child see a lump or swelling of any type, regardless of whether there is another injury, please get it checked out right away.
