Anabela's Med and Bed Fundraiser

Donation protected
On 4 December 2013 Anabela "Bubbles" Kleyn was joyfully welcomed into the world and Sarah became a Mummy.

Shortly after she was born Anabela was rushed to intensive care, and only 48 hours later a life saving operation was performed on her tiny body to connect her stomach to her food pipe.

You see, Anabela has a life long journey filled with surgeries and numerous long term medical conditions. None of which were picked up in ultrasound.

She has a very rare condition called VACTERL association (refers to the non-random co-occurrence of birth defects: vertebral anomalies, anal atresia, cardiac defects, tracheoesophageal fistula and/or esophageal atresia, renal anomalies and limb defects), spina bifida, hemifacial microsomia, microtia and microtia atriasia (no ear) congenital tracheomalacia (floppy windpipe), left vocal fold palsy, right facial nerve palsy, fused ribs on her left and 2 extra ribs on her right. Her case is classified as complex.

A lot to take in, right? Spare a thought for Sarah who manages, records and researches Anabela's many conditions.

Like you, I keep up to date with Anabela via Sarah's beautiful photos and updates. Her vibrant spirit and fiesty nature (wonder where she gets those from) shine through and brighten my day.

But, lets face it, behind those smiley photos are ongoing treatments, specialist appointments, hospital stays, operations, and emergencies.

Just 16 weeks ago Anabela underwent gruelling spinal cord surgery to de-tether her spinal cord and remove a lipoma tumor.

Between now and April alone Sarah and Anabela have appointments nearly every week; from x-rays to spinal examinations, scoliosis clinic, Tresilian, Ear Nose and Throat appointments, cranio clinic, hand deformity clinic, and an endoscopy under general anaesthetic... the list goes on.

On top of all that there is some critical equipment needed to support Anabela's health and continued development, including:

> A safety sleeper so Anabela can sleep safely and comfortably during her frequent hospital stays (upwards of $2,789.99)
> Her own CPAP machine ($2,000) and mask ($189) to assist Anabela to breathe
> A CPAP cleaner ($449), and
> A medical suctioning device ($551).

And because at the heart of it she is a typical 2 year old who loves the Wiggles and is graduating to her first Big Girls Bed, Sarah would also love to surprise and delight Anabela with a super awesome Wiggles bed and furniture!

So, what do you think? Even though our mate might not ask for help, the truth is it would make a pretty huge difference to her and Anabela's life if we could lend them a hand. If you've taken the time to read this, will you take a moment to contribute what you can to help?

With thanks,

Lauren
