In Loving Memory of Michael White

Many of you may know Mike White, who is the truck driver for our Sanitation Department and has been employed by the Village of Ridgewood for 21 years. He is incredibly professional, very kind and extremely friendly. Throughout the years, he has gone out of his way to connect with many of us in the community on a personal level.
We recently learned that his son Michael White who also worked directly with him for approximately one year as a seasonal employee, was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in July. Michael was 25 years old and leaves behind a 22-month-old daughter.
Many of us are absolutely heartbroken to hear of Mike’s loss. He is now back to work, but as we can only imagine, it must be difficult for Mike and his wife as they try to return to their new normal while working through their grief.
When I asked Mike what we could do to help, he asked only that we continue to pray for him and his family. However, so many neighbors know Mike on a personal level, so we thought we could do for him what we would do for any other member of our community.
We would like to take a collection to try to help with the little things while Mike and his wife mourn the sudden and unforeseen loss of their son. We do not know what restaurants or grocery stores they frequent, so giving them a monetary donation would allow them to do a big shopping order or even order takeout when they don’t feel up to cooking. This small gesture by our community would certainly help with their everyday needs in the difficult days ahead.
Additionally, Mike and his wife are now also helping to support their beautiful granddaughter. As we all know, diapers and toddler’s needs are expensive, and a little bit goes a long way. A generous collection would also help with some of these day-to-day expenses as well.
Mike has been an integral part of our community for 21 years and this is a thoughtful and kind gesture to do for his family as they try to cope with this unimaginable tragedy. No donation is too small.
