By 1980 we were receiving requests and pleas from incarcerated people of the Wiccan faith who had no access to literature or education but who desperately wanted to change their lives.
In 1999 when our Church volunteer who was helping these people had to retire for health reasons, I created the Prisoner Outreach Program. We provide education but require responsibility and making change. The results have been gratifying but we are a very small organization and cannot afford the time nor money needed. We have had requests from more than 370 facilities.
Currently, as an unpaid volunteer who works about 80 hours a week for our Church, we can provide education for a maximum of 20 prisoners. This creates a cost for us of roughly $500.00 a year in postage, plus the cost of the printer, toner, paper, etc. Prisoners, the lucky ones earning a dollar a day, do their best to send stamps and small donations.
With your help we could accommodate those on a waiting list and be of better help for those who have nothing.
I have been blessed knowing these individuals. Some fail, to be certain, but I've known felons with some of the worst crimes become model citizens, highly respected by fellow prisoners and staff alike because they are able to grow and change turning to their religion just as those of mainstream religions.
Your donation will do so much for a segment of our population who are largely ignored and forgotten, even by Wiccans on the outside.
