Amys Project Vietnam

I’m going to be spending the month of July volunteering in South Vietnam, working with children with mental and physical disabilities and possibly HIV.
In many parts of Vietnam, children with additional needs such as autism, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome other disabilities are seen as a punishment to the mothers for their behaviour in their past life, and therefore are mostly hidden away and don’t get any access to education or support. There are an incredibly limited number of ‘special schools’ and so most children with additional needs don’t get the opportunity to gain an education, as they don’t get accepted into kindergarten or primary schools. There are however, some day centres for children with additional needs, but due to the severe lacking of support staff to work with them, they rely a lot on the work of volunteers.
I’ll be flying out to Vietnam on the 30th of June to help run one of these day centres. I’ll be helping to feed children who can’t do it themselves, toileting, organising and implementing classes such as arts and crafts, teaching children important information about things such as hygiene, and helping these underprivillaged children gain a bit of an education, and shown that someone cares!
As I’ll be working and living there for a month, it is quite costly so I’ll be doing some fundraising to get up and running. I’m also planning on taking some resources out with me for the children. I'll greatly appreciate any help you can give, thank you!!
