AMS Senior Dues Fundraising
Last year, my friends and I noticed something unfortunate: a lot of our classmates and friends from the graduating class of 2017 weren't able to participate in many of the senior activities.
At our school in the Bronx, the Senior Dues, which cover the cost of your graduation cap and gown, senior pictures, and whole cohort field trips, just cost too much. Families weren't able to afford it, and seniors who had worked so hard over the past four years were left behind while their friends enjoyed what were likely to be some of their last memories together.
We didn't want that to happen to our grade. The five of us, girls from the Class of 2018, wanted to make sure that the same fate didn't happen during our senior year. Over the past summer, we've planned numerous fundraising and community activities, working with local organizations and inside our school, in order to help alleviate some of the burdensome costs to families. Senior dues are $350 per person and this even excludes the cost of prom and senior trip, which is about another $300+. These costs are troubling for a majority of the families at our school, where about 92% are below the poverty lines.
We're looking to raise $10,000 so that we can help out each and every family in our graduating class. Even by helping to relieve the prohibitive cost by $100 each will help more of our classmates have a successful year, and not miss out on what should be some of the most important memories of their lives.
