A Message From Amirah:
Since starting ballet at the age of 3, I have loved every moment of it. My parents tell me that at age 4, I told them that I wanted to be a ballerina, violinist and doctor when I grew up.
From that time, I have been training hard to be the best I can in becoming a professional ballerina! A few months ago, I decided to dream big! It all started when my mom happend to be listening to an online radio when she heard that my ballet inspiration, Misty Copeland, was going to be interviewed that hour. Somehow, I gathered the nerve to call in. I was estatic that I was able to get on the line and speak with Misty Copeland!
Her words of encouragement as a Black ballerina to continue to persevere and work hard, inspired me even more. After seeing some videos of my performances, she suggested that I audition for the American Ballet Theatre(ABT) Summer Intensive. For weeks, I practiced and prepared to go to New York City for the audition. Walking into the ABT headquarters, I felt excited to be in a place where the most famous ballets are rehearsed by the world's best ballet dancers. The audition class was amazing! I felt I did great and I couldn't wait to get the results. Just 5 days later, I received an email that said not only was I selected to the ABT Summer Intensive 2015, but I was chosen to train at their New York City site, which is ABT's most advanced level program out of all 5 of their summer intensive sites across the country!
If I raise enough money, I will be spending 5 weeks of intensive training at the American Ballet Theatre in NYC this summer. Training at such a prestigious program, can be the launching pad for a professional ballet career. I am eager to improve my technique, artistry and performance. I am excited and honored to be at this stage in my ballet life!
Now this is where I need your help...
I need to raise $15,000 to pay for my summer tuition, room, board, and dance supplies.
