Amberly's TBI Treatment

For anyone who has known Amberly for a long time, you know that she is an overachiever who loves to be active in the community, and loves to always be doing something new, but that changed when she had her brain injury.
In October 2015 Amberly was a missionary and decided to go to the chiropractor for her hip. The chiropractor adjusted her entire back and made a mistake while adjusting her neck. The chiropractor moved her neck wrong and partially dissected her left vertebral artery, resulting in damage to the artery and lack of blood to her brain.
Immediately following the injury she could not walk, she had no short term memory, she could not read and all logical thinking was gone. She came home from her mission soon after and spent the next 6 months on bed rest. The doctors originally said that she would be completely healed after a year.
Yet even with time passing the symptoms have persisted. After two years of trying to cope with this, she went back to the doctor looking for help. She still has headaches, migraines, trouble concentrating for very long, chronic nausea, and episodes where she acts completely irrational and totally childlike. This behavior, which at that point is completely out of her control, is humiliating and discouraging. The doctors explain that these episodes occur when the weak part of the brain experiences stress and turns off in a measure of self preservation. The doctors told her that there was nothing they could do to heal her brain and that she would have to learn to just cope with it for the rest of her life. With this information a lot of her dreams of the future went out the window.
With the help of medications and adopting specific coping mechanisms, she has gotten to a functioning level. She is able to go to school and work part time, but is forced to sleep in order to recover from the cognitive strain.
Then a few weeks ago she met someone who told her about CognitiveFX. This is a treatment facility that is run by some of the best neurosurgeons and neuroscientist in the United States. This is the only place in the country that has the technology to help her be able to heal and become herself again.People around the country fly in around the country to go to and it is just in Provo, which is 20 minutes from where we live! This has brought much light and hope to our lives.

We hope to have Amberly go through this therapy this summer. This is the only chance we see to let Amberly get her life back and alleviate these oppressive symptoms.
The only problem, is that insurance won’t cover any of it. None. 0%. Between paying for school and doctors appointments, this therapy won’t be a possibility for us for many many years.
