Fund Schools in Brazilian Amazon

Six of us from Martha's Vineyard visited several schools in the Brazilian Amazon this past July while taking an ecotour. We learned that two of the schools need funds to improve their learning environments. Vivamazonia, which has 30 students, is looking to purchase a solar panel and a water pump. It is a school that educates children who live along the Jauaperi River. The other school is in Mirituba, on the Rio Negro. It provides education to 17 students from this village. Miributa is looking to improve its wooden one room school, which leaks, to one that is made of brick. These projects will be accomplished with the $1200 fundraised last week, thanks to the generous support of our friends and families. We are now trying to raise an additional $2800 to help support the efforts of the  Almirinda Malaquias Foundation.  Here is a link to their website www.fundacaoalmerindamalaquias.org.  The Foundation provides education to 80 children of all ages about the biodiversity of the area. It also teaches the children and 30 adults how to create ecological products and art, providing workshops, studios and a store where their items are then sold.  They are looking to purchase a computer, several fans for the classrooms, fans for the paper recycling area for the women, some tools, and school supplies for the Vivamazonia school. The ecotour we took and the Foundation support the Vivamazonia school by providing the teachers' salaries, boat and fuel. Please be part of this campaign by donating $10 or $25 (or more) to bring better educational conditions to the people that are helping and learning to protect the Amazon for all of us!
