My BESTFRIEND and whom I call my sister was in a car accident Monday, December 18th. She is 23 years old and just graduated December 16th from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi with her Bachelors in Nursing.

After graduating TAMUCC nursing school on Saturday with distinction Amanda Whitney was on her way to an interview for a nursing position at Spohn Shoreline that following Monday. It was drizzling and as she was driving over the Portland bridge she was cut off by a large commercial truck forcing her to lose control of her car and spin out impacting the concrete barrier in the center of the Portland bridge which spun her across all 3 lanes to the other side where she impacted the other concrete wall. Her car was completely totaled and blood was gushing out Amanda’s Nose (From how she explained it she said it was like an artery was cut open with how much blood was gushing out) The EMTs that arrived on the scene controlled her bleeding and then cleared her to go home because she said she was fine and seemed to be in her right mind after her car accident.

A couple days passed and swelling got worse before it got better. Her graduation gift was going on her first cruise ever with her cousin Bailey and Aunt Tracy. Amanda was so excited to go and just relax and forget about the stress she had back home.

36 hours into the cruise she was in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and found her self in the basement of the ship where the cruise line holds their medical center. Amanda’s nose and ears started to bleed tremendously. As you know A hit, fall, or accident can cause a head injury that can lead to bleeding from the ear. This could be a sign of bleeding around the brain, so you should seek emergency medical attention as soon as you can. The bleeding wouldn’t stop. The entire night Amanda kept asking her cousins “Am I going to die? Am I going to die?”  Cruise line called the Coast Guard and since their helicopters can fly so far with the fuel they had, the cruise line had to turn around and back track a couple hours to be able to meet them in flight range.

Amanda Violet Whitney was airlifted from the cruise ship December 24th Christmas Eve from the U.S Coast guard and transported to Louisiana Medical Center where they rushed her by Helicopter staying close to the ground the help with the pressure concerning her ears. 24 hours at Louisiana Jefferson Medical Center and they recommended surgery. The surgery was going to cost nearly $40,000. Apparently Amanda doesn’t have insurance and when that went public it seemed like the hospital was ready to discharge her. From what I heard they were treating her very rude.

Amanda’s boyfriend Zac flew out to Louisiana Immediately to meet her at the Emergency room. By the time he had arrived they were ready to check her out. Zac took her to a family friends house whose parents helped out with over night bleeding and attending to the couple with what they need. The bleeding still didn’t stop and everyone was suppressed that Jefferson Medical Center allowed her to get discharged. Christmas day Zac rushed Amanda to a difference Emergency room (Louisiana State University Emergency room) where they hooked her up to Morphine and are giving her fluids. The photo above is a picture of her getting treatment. She is being treated much better and is in good hands.

This is me, her best friend and her sister reaching out to you to help raise money to get the surgery she needs. She DOES NOT have insurance and can’t afford it.  If you know Amanda then you know she is the kindest hearted and caring person you know. She always puts everyone first and always has an extended helping hand. Lets show her she is loved and help her with the surgery that could possibly save her life!
