Alyssa's Para Taekwondo Dream

Donation protected

My name is Alyssa Fencil, in 2008 after a pair of car accidents only a few months apart, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis(MS).  MS is a neurological disease which has currently left me with headaches and diminished balance and reflexes issues. Right now, things with my MS are stable and it allows me to train three to four day a week, while being a fulltime mother of two wonderful rambunctious children, and working a fulltime job as registered nurse.  Though as I have become aware conditions with my MS can change at any time.

MS has brought its own unique challenges to my training in taekwondo, to advance my training sometimes takes longer than those around me because I must be extra careful and listen to what my body is telling me. One thing MS has thought me is to enjoy my achievements more, because of the extra work that must going into it to make them happen.

In July of 2016, I qualified for taekwondo’s US National tournament in Detroit and came away with two gold medals.  After US Nationals, I was Raked #1 in the US and #10 in the world. It has been quite a whirlwind experience for me, it has opened up the ability to compete internationally and with a lot of hard work and dedication possibly be able to go to Tokyo in 2020 for the Paralympic Games. This year I also competed at the US Nationals in Detroit and won three gold medals.

I am currently trying to raise the funds to help offset the costs of travel and training to be able to attend more of these events and one day fulfill my dream of going to Tokyo in 2020.

Thanks and much love,

Alyssa.
