Alfred's Cancer Relief Fund

My name is Jodi Bolduc. I have started this campaign to help my father-in-law, Alfred Bolduc, a United States military veteran, who days ago received the dreaded news that his stage IV laryngeal cancer had returned.

About a week after learning of the recurrence, Al underwent surgery at CMMC (on 02/03/16) to remove the lymph nodes in his neck, at least one of which was positive for cancer. He also had a trach placed, as he has been struggling to both breathe and swallow. A side effect of his initial treatment, which concluded in the fall of 2014 and consisted of chemotherapy and radiation, caused damage to the tissues in his neck.

Also related to his initial diagnosis and treatment, Al had to have all of teeth removed in 2014. This helped minimize the chance of infection once he began treatment. Unfortunately, thus far, the VA has not deemed teeth to be "medically necessary," despite the fact that Al has continued to lose weight, in large part because he is unable to eat higher-quality proteins and meals. We will continue to press the insurers on this issue.

A self-employed carpenter, Al has been unable to work much in the past two years since his initial diagnosis, and certainly will not be working at all for a while. It is my hope that we can help to alleviate some of the financial burden so that Al can focus his energy on getting well. Too, if we are unsuccessful in getting the VA or his insurers to approve false teeth, I hope to raise enough money to get some for him.

Our family is deeply grateful for the prayers, kind words and support during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Jodi Bolduc
