Please consider donating what you can to help the wonderful family of musical legend Allan Holdsworth with his funeral expenses in this most difficult time. Thank you and please share!

A sincere "thank you" to all of you who have sent private messages to the campaign; they will be forwarded to Louise & Emily.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE HOLDSWORTH FAMILY

The past few days have felt like a lifetime of a never-ending nightmare. It's hard to put into words the emotions and gratitude that we feel.

Without all of the love and support we have received we would be completely lost. We are doing our best to fulfill the wishes of our beloved father.

We will be holding a private ceremony to celebrate the life of our dad and we cannot thank you enough for allowing us to do that. We will be planning a public memorial in the coming weeks.

I know he's looking down at us and he can rest easy knowing the huge stress that has been lifted from our shoulders. Thank you for all the kind words, memories and donations.

We have decided, as a family, to close the GoFundMe campaign. It has more than exceeded its purpose. We cannot express our gratitude to you all enough, it has been overwhelming.

In lieu of further donations or flowers, please consider donating to your local pitbull rescue in Dad's name as he was most fond of the breed. We often teased him that Daisy, our pit mix, was actually his favorite child.

All Right Then, Then...

Our dad was the best!

Dear all,

Here is an update written by Manning Bartlett, an administrator of the UnReal Allan Holdsworth group on Facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/361803263942657/

----------------

So yesterday at 4AM (Sydney time), Louise Holdsworth is on the phone sobbing hysterically (as you can well understand). My wife Eva is sobbing as well. I am just numb.

Louise then uttered some words that harrowed my soul - "We can't even afford a funeral. What are we going to do?"

"Don't worry about the money", I said. "I'll sort it out".

A confession - this was PURE bravado on my part. I really had no idea how to solve this. My own credit card was still recovering from my recent trip to LA.

I called Greg Beaton to discuss crowdfunding. He was camping in the Sierra Nevadas. It breaks my heart to tell you that we had a GoFundMe account already set up... in preparation to raise the funds needed to get Allan's final two albums finished. That we were now using this account to pay for his funeral is simply horrible.

Greg configured the GoFundMe account using his phone while standing on a mountain trail. Meanwhile I shoot a video with my hair standing up and my t-shirt on backwards. (I'm not good at 4AM... or any other time really)

-----

Now it is 24 hours later. I'll be honest, Louise is still barely able to function. I check in with her every two hours or so to make sure she is OK.

But something absolutely astonishing has happened. You - his fans - have stepped up in an utterly astonishing way. Way, way, WAY beyond our wildest dreams.

Many, many people have asked "What are you going to do with the extra money?". Here's the answer - absolutely NO idea.

This fund was always about only one thing, ensuring that Allan Holdsworth received a dignified funeral. To be perfectly honest, I had no confidence we would even achieve that.

Louise, Emily and Sam are still too caught up in agonizing grief to think beyond the immediate. Meanwhile I'm just a family friend and it is not my place to decide anything. So I can't tell you anything about what they will do with the money you all have raised.

What I can tell you is that there are NO words for how grateful we are. Ridiculously, incomprehensibly, stupefyingly grateful.

Our dearest and beloved friend Allan will be buried with grace and respect, and his children will not panic about the cost. That is a kindness for which I have no words to describe.

Thank you all.

While I can't speak directly for Allan's family, I am very grateful to see such a quick outpouring of love and support for them, as I'm sure are they. It is no secret that Allan is quite loved by many, and his generous and kind demeanor is mirrored in your actions. Thank you so much for helping ease their burden by removing this worry from their plate.

Allan you changed the way I see the world. I spent many lonely nights studying for exams and pursuing a computer science degree. The only way I could focus on the material was to listen to your music while studying. From that point I didn't feel the emptiness that I would have without your music. I'm sorry I didn't get to share this with you when we met. I know it was a busy day at Continental club. And you guys killed it. I don't think a day goes by where I don't listen to one of your songs if not by memory. I'm grateful for the moments we shared when you were visiting Texas. I'm still studying how to emulate your style and hopefully one day will be able to perform a song or two. It's been a pleasure learning to reach uncommon chords and will dedicate my life to continuing your journey. I'm happy that this fund was a success for your family. You will be remembered forever which is the best thing that any artists can achieve. Thank you so much for sharing your music with the world. Thank you for believing in yourself and simply doing what you loved most.

Death is difficult. I could encourage you though to take courage in two things. One, it is an inevitability we have to face. The other is that the outpouring here shows exactly how greatly valuable Mr Allan Holdsworth was to a huge number of people. Many virtuosi have credited him as a unique influence. Very few people can claim that. Although I have loved his for thirty years, I am now more indebted than before, having realised through this how true and steadfast he has been to the protection of real, intelligent music. While I do not believe in an afterlife and believe we have to accept the totality of our loss, the pain now is a reflection of the beauty, joy and worth of his life. No one can take away how profoundly he will be missed.

I saw Allan twice. Both times in small venues and 3 piece bands. Unbelievable musicianship. But he wasn't one for the spotlight or "the show", just played his music. I've listened to and loved his music since the early Ponty and Bruford days. He was very much one of a kind. Thank you, Allan.

It is a very sad time for the Holdsworth family now. I never knew him personally, but I am sure he was a wonderful and loving husband and father. His musical insights, innovations and pioneering determination are all testaments to his love of life, family and friends. His understanding and communication of music was not only from his technical prowess, but also from his very being. Humility was one of his greatest virtues and enablers in all of his relationships; as he simply loved to touch all those around him and in the world through his greatest asset of talent -- his music. All those who knew and loved him -- and always, forever will -- may find some solace of comfort in the truth that others will never let his memory and beautiful accomplishments fade from this world. He was, and always shall be, the true musician; and, so much more, the true being of person that so many wish to be. With my heartfelt condolences, I wish his loved ones the eventual return of happiness and hope as they continue with their lives. With sincerity and respect, D. Edward Hughes

Heartbroken with the rest of you. But I have to say I love the picture of Allan with Daisy. "He's just like the rest of us! Until you put a guitar in his hands..." I had the pleasure of seeing him only once in a little tiny dive in upstate NY. Couldn't believe he was playing there... but the standing-room only crowd was an endorsement to his brilliance. I think we mere mortals were all a little disappointed to see this legend squeezed into a tiny little club; surely, he deserved better. However, we got to be that much closer to the stage and be within arm's reach of the divine prowess and unparalleled humility that lived within Allan. I met "Road Games" when I was 15 years old thanks to my science teacher who heard me gushing about Yngwie. It has taken me all this time to unwrap Allan's music and I'm nowhere close to finished. As has been said by many others, he was WAY ahead of his time. His lasting legacy to us all is a catalog of music that will continue to give and tease secrets for decades to come. We will miss him with every note.
