medical lift and wet room for mum

After fighting cancer for almost 6 years my mum suffered a stroke and then a broken hip, she is now paralysed and we are trying to raise funds for my mum to have a special lift and a wet/disabled bathroom put in her house.




 

She has had a huge fight on her hands here is her story.

 

My mum Christine 56 has been battling cancer for the last 5-6 years. She was first diagnosed with bowl cancer in 2009/2010 she had part of her bowl removed and radiotherapy followed by chemo and she was starting to show signs of recovery.

 

On one of her routine scans they broke the news that it had spread to her liver she had a large section of it removed and had chemo and again we were told things were progressing well... obviously it had been hell on earth  but she was fighting back.

 

On January 29th 2015 we were hit with the news that the cancer was back, this time it had spread to her lung and liver, and they were sorry but they couldn’t operate just give her chemo for more time....... She was terminal.

 

You can’t imagine those words coming out of anybody’s mouth that you love and care about, but hearing them come out of my mums mouth made me want to vomit, cry, shout and scream all at the same time.

 

Mum was ready to fight again she might have been given a terminal diagnosis but there was no way she was giving up, everything they offered to battle the cancer she took, even a new drug that caused her face to break out in severe acne.

 

she was going to push as hard as she could then her life changed for ever when on mother’s day 2015 she had a catastrophic stroke.  How much more could my poor mum take!

 She is now paralysed down her whole left side and needs constant care and use of a wheel chair. To make things worse she then fell and broke her hip whilst in hospital.





She can no longer make it upstairs to use the toilet or shower as our bathroom is upstairs and is not equipped for disabled use. She can’t come upstairs to her own bed, instead she sleeps in the backroom in a hospital bed, and my dad can’t bear to leave her side so he sleeps on the couch every night he works full time so this is really taking its toll on him.

Funding could take anywhere from six months to 2 years from the local council, we don’t know if my mum has that amount of time left so we want to get this done for her as soon as possible.

The lift we need would cost £10,000 and the bathroom a further £5000 it’s a lot of money and with the amount of care my mum requires we just can’t stretch work hours to be able to save.

 

Please, please help us, any amount nothing is too small. We will post updates and progress if we reach our goal.

This has been a horrific time for our family but most of all mum if we could reach this goal it would make her so much more comfortable and give her the quality of life she so very much deserves thank you.
