Aida's study trip to Silicon Valley

Help a Guatemalan sociologist to move forward to achieve her dream to help women and children around the world

For more than 10 years now, I have dedicated myself to jobs where I could make an impact on other peoples lives. Coming from a region where inequality and lack of opportunities are part of our daily reality, I have always tried to use my own skills and energy to help boost the lives of others.
The road has been long, interesting and often fulfilling, but I still feel that I have never done anything amazing enough to truly help others attain a better future.

During this period, facing and struggling with various challenges something unexpected happened: I discovered I was actually quite good at managing and leading teams. And I discovered that this skill is key to using resources efficiently when tackling complex social issues.

So this road of helping others led me to aim higher to help more people more effectively. And that led me to an international. By boosting my business skills and leadership qualities I believe I will be able to tackle ever greater endeavours afterwards, especially in more challenging jobs where I can engage with businesswomen, and women who need our help, around the world.

As part of the MBA, the school is offering us the opportunity to participate in a Study Trip to the Silicon Valley to experience the spark of innovation of this part of the world first hand. The trip immerses us in the emerging forces of technology and innovation, and helps us to understand where this burning desire of so many startups to change the world comes from.

Participating in this trip would be a life-changing opportunity for me! The chance to talk to those people and leaders who have dared to go further, invented new models of work, and changed the world in the process..

Also, California is a place where many foundations for women issues have their headquarters. I will take advantage of the trip to visit the Global Fund for Women, Humanity United, Kiva, and others.

I strongly believe I can innovate on social issues and develop new collaborative ways to help people improve the quality of their lives. This requires a different mindset than my usual one, and I am trying to master it at all times.

In my near future, I want to engage with women issues and work in innovative ways that will assure real impact in their lives. The Silicon Valley Trip should give me lots of insight. I have a lot to learn, great ideas to discover and network with people who have different ideas but care about the same issues I do. Asking for your help is party of my attempt to remould myself to be more proactive and never accept that the lack of money can stop me from doing what's right or what's best.

About the Trip

This study trip will help me in this intensive year of learning to go deeper, and to discover the keys to successfully making a difference afterwards.

This is a 6 full days trip that aims to introduce us to the top companies on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. The trip will cover a lot of ground in San Francisco, the Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

We will visit companies, universities, think tanks, venture capital firms, incubators and accelerators, meeting with entrepreneurs, professors, students, start-up founders, business leaders, and more.

I cannot afford this study trip by myself and this is why I am launching this campaign and asking you for your help.

Despite being completely out of my comfort zone, thank you for reading me.

If you are able to make a difference by helping me to make a difference, please donate and share with those you know.

Gracias!
