Aida CF Santos Heart Surgery

Donation protected
With Aida CF Santos permission, I am initiating this fundraising drive to raise US$25,000.00 or PhP1,000,000.00 [Philippine Pesos] for her immediate heart surgery.

Aida recently had a heart attack. She was advised to undergo angioplasty in one to two months because her heart is severely damaged. She’s not exhibiting the usual symptoms of a heart attack due to neuropathy as a result of diabetes. Her doctor strongly recommended angiogram and angioplasty immediately.

I have worked with Aida at the Kalayaan (Women’s League for Liberation) Project against Sex Trafficking in Women and Children - A joint project of the Philippine-Belgian Goverment in 1998.  Aida was one of the women founders of Kalayaan and  WEDPRO* and other non-governmental organizations in the Philippines. Generally, NGO workers who have dedicated their lives. youth, energy, wisdom, intellect, creativity and passion for social justice have no medical insurance or retirement funds for their old age and debilitating health conditions.

As a young activist in the 70's, Aida has inspired me to become a leader and community educator on women's and children's rights. I myself with the late Lakan Bunyi has written and performed the street play "We Are So Syndicated, Ma'am" a "Fowl Play against Sex Trafficking in women and children locally and internationally under the Kalayaan and the International Organization for Migraion [IOM] in the late 1998 [Google my name Soki Paulin (no letter "e") on the review of our UN performance in March 1998].

Aida also has inspired me to love myself and come out as as a lesbian when I have read a national magazine article about her and her partner's coming out as lesbian couple. I owe Aida my wonderful life now as a married woman with the woman I love here in the USA.

As a student activist and leader, Aida has survived rape, torture and human rights violations under the Martial Law of Dictator Marcos. Up to now, Aida is actively involved in the parliament of the streets, organizing, educating and mobilizing local and international communities for social justice.

Aida  is also one of several petitioners that filed for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to stop the hero's burial of the dictator Marcos at the Supreme Court which voted 9-5-1 favoring the decision of Pres Duterte to bury Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

On behalf of Aida CF Santos, her family and friends, I would like to thank you all for supporting this goal of raising $25,000 for Aida's heart surgery in 60 days.

*WEDPRO as a non-profit, enthused by the possibility of engaging in the call to create a program that would design a comprehensive bases conversion for the would-be displaced women in the baselands. This marked the beginning of WeDpro’s engagement as a feminist, gender-responsive organization in the Philippines. In its own quiet way, WeDpro through the years, supported by its founders, members, staff, supporters and friends, crafted and implemented pioneering programs, projects and activities. Some of these are the template for the Comprehensive Bases Program for Women in the cities of Angeles in Pampanga (Clark Air Base) and Olongapo in Zambales (Subic Naval Base); the establishment of the first lesbian hotline; organizing and support for the First National Lesbian Rights Conference (FLRC), the First National Conference on Prostitution, the First National Conference on Amerasians, among others.
