A Fight For Faeth

Donation protected
In life we all faces challenges, whether they are good or bad. But, it is how we face these challenges head-on that either makes or breaks us. I myself have faced many challenges, but none of the challenges I have faced thus far I believe have been as hard as the one I am about to face.

After four surgeries in five years I thought I would not need another surgery, but unfortunately this is not the case.

This summer I was and still am in the worst pain I have ever experienced, and I had a feeling that something was wrong. On August 31, 2016, my 23rd birthday, I met with a new orthopedic surgeon (Surgeon #3). After examining my right foot/ankle/leg, I heard the doctor say the three words I knew would eventually come, but never truly wanted to hear; that I would need a “below knee amputation.”

These words are still hard to swallow even while I am writing this. I am still in shock that after I fought so hard to get my life back; when I thought this fight was over I found out that yet again my life will be put on hold.

I have met with six orthopedic surgeons from Maine to Boston, hoping that they would say something different, but that was not the case.

After speaking to my family and the doctors, I have decided that on December 30th, 2016 I will be having a below the knee amputation to my right leg. My foot is deteriorating faster then expected, and each day I deal with excruciating pain that is crippling.  I have realized over the past few months that this will be a blessing in disguise. I will have a better quality of life, and more importantly the opportunity to get my life back.

I will no longer be limited to the pain that I experience each and everyday currently, nor will I be limited to the decrease ability that my foot currently has. Instead, I will be able to walk much better and without severe pain, work at a hospital without increasing the pain,  the chance to run again and kick a soccer ball, and complete the list of things I once did/wanted to do, but have not be able to do these past 5 years.

I am extremely thankful for any contribution you can make at this time. Thank you for your support and for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.
