On February 8th, 2016, a house fire erupted in Greensboro, NC. It destroyed the entire interior of my mother’s home, leaving behind nothing but ash. Our home has seen 4 generations of childhood memories, little league sporting events, community birthday parties, high school proms, college graduations, and new babies born . We lost our homestead, our castle, the central place where all the family gathers to be a family and catch up on life. My wife is due any day now with my moms first grandchild, and we currently do not have a place for all of the family to visit the baby.
No people were hurt, but we lost a beloved family member, our dog, Gator. He was the happiest, most loving dog I've known. He greeted everyone at the door with a smile and puppy kisses.
We were able to go through and collect any photos and paperwork that wasn't completely destroyed. But we lost almost everything, all the photo albums of 4 generations.
My mom is one of the most generous people you could ever know, helping everyone she could throughout her life. Many times throughout her life she gave people a place to stay when they fell on hard times. Now, she has lost everything and has been displaced to Virginia until we can get a new home rebuilt. She just lost her father 6 months ago and is feeling very hopeless. I am hoping to show her that community and help can extend far beyond that of just the people that she knows. I want to help her with all of my might, so please help me help her.
