A Dream to Float

Donation protected

This is Luke.   Luke was born with Cystic Fibrosis which is a life threatening illness Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF primarily affects the lungs and digestive system because of a malfunction in the exocrine system, responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears and mucus. There is currently no cure. People with CF develop an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus within the lungs, airways and the digestive system. The mucus causes impairment of the digestive functions of the pancreas and traps bacteria in the lungs resulting in recurrent infections which lead to irreversible damage. Lung failure is the major cause of death for someone with CF.
With the help of a double lung transplant which he received on the night of his 21st birthday, Luke has reached the grand old age of 33.  (old right?)

Initially after the transplant Luke was able to work as a trainer with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls then the Gold Coast Titans. Being a Personal Trainer was a dream for Luke.
However this was taken from him!
Despite the initial success of the transplant, Luke's health continues to decline. He constantly battles  with an untreatable form of rejection, called B.O.S or Broncholiatisis Obliterans Syndrom.  He also suffers from  a  depleted immune system, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis..... the list goes on! Not to mention the constant back an forth hospital trips (So far, in the first six months of 2016, Luke has already seen more than 4 months of it from hospital) - just to  he can breathe!! Presently Luke has 23% lung function and its declining!
Luke has been told by his medical team that "He will NOT be relisted for a second transplant!"

Despite all these major health issues Luke is a DO'r and has dreams. Which have always passed by without fufillment.
One of these dreams is to build a HOUSEBOAT.
WE NEED FUNDS TO FINISH THIS ONE DREAM FOR HIM!!!
Work started on this in 2011.  The work accomplished in the last 5 years has been the result of Luke's own hard work  (health permiting) and help of family and friends.
*see pictures for current build.

However, Luke's deteriorating health is not slowing down!
We need to raise funds to get this on the water and QUICKLY and that means paying professionals to complete the remaining work that's needed, the certification, sign off on engineering and to licence the vessel.
This houseboat will be a home for Luke.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to get Luke's dream home afloat.

Any contribution at all will be greatly appreciated as it all goes to helping make this happen.
Luke currently lives just outside of Lismore in New South Wales Northern Rivers so if you or anyone you know lives in the area and has any skills that could help on such a build - we would love to hear from you.

If you've made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read this.  We would love if you could contribute in some small way and if all you are able to do is share this story, then that itself would be truly amazing.

You will find below photos of the build of the houseboat and what Luke has acheived thus far and some more pictures of the man himself.
