DOGS MIGHT BE THE ONLY PROTECTION WE NEED
The number one reason Americans buy guns is for protection, but studies show that dogs deter more burglars than guns, even the smallest. (UNC, 2013).
Beyond using these studies, we interviewed ex-convicts, police officers, criminologists, gun owners (exercising their 2nd amendment rights), dog owners, trainers and other experts to corroborate this argument.
Based on these findings, @adoptprotection is inviting people to consider adopting a dog as a loving alternative to protect their homes. As part of this initiative, we are partnering with gun buyback programs all over the country and inviting gun owners to swap their guns for a discount in adoption fees.
Partnering organizations, such as NYC Second Chance Rescue , are discounting up to $200 in adoption fees to those who surrender a gun. However, we extended an open invitation to over 200 animal shelters, gun-control organizations, and animal advocacy programs to join the movement.

Our objective is simple but ambitious: Zero homeless dogs. Zero unprotected homes. (And hopefully less gun incidents)

Our target goal of $15,000 is to fund the ongoing efforts of Adopt Protection:
- Production of communication materials (flyers, posters, etc.)
- Supporting shelter outreach work
- Online advertising initiatives to spread the word
- Supporting local gun buyback programs across the nation
- Merchandising
- Design, manufacture, and distribution
