UPDATE:   Friends -- It is with full hearts and tremendous gratitude that we close this campaign. What you did was incredible. Together, we raised more than $160,000 to fight hate and extremism here in the U.S. Here are some highlights:

A Banner Day

Our plane flew over San Francisco, generating tweets, chuckles, and a bunch more donations!

Offline Donations

A couple of generous offline donations bear mentioning. Munger Tolles & Olson LLP donated $1,500 to SPLC, and John Keker donated an additional $1,000. Those donations put us over $160,000 raised!

By the Numbers

Total raised: $160,391
Total donors: 2,647
Average donation: $60
Facebook shares: 17,000

Many of you added comments along with your contributions. Here is just a small sample of the poignant, defiant, and hysterical comments you posted:

"Go Nazis go! (not really)"
"Nazis. I hate these guys!"
"Defeat evil by making them do more good than harm. I love it."
"Thanks Nazis! If it wasn't for you I would have never thought to do this. Nice going!"
"It feels good to be able to do something to combat these activities."
"I'll adopt one. Preferably vaccinated and neutered."
"Thank you. I've shared this on FB as well. We wanted something we could do. This is small, but it is vital."
"Never again."
"Yes. Yes. All the yes. I am in."
"I am adopting in honor of my late father, Francis, who was a white supremacist. He inadvertently taught me the importance of standing up for what is right. We can honor our parents by not repeating their mistakes."
"I hope the nazi I sponsor is extra hateful. I want to get the most value out of my money."
"SPLC is a wonderful organization and I am happy to contribute!!"
"Greetings from Germany, I'm in awe of how you handle these events. Never again, anywhere in this world, should hate be allowed to win for even a minute."
"Great idea! My 13 year old son sold cookies and lemonade for this fundraiser and made $102.14 towards this donation. Berkeley neighbors loved it!"
"In honor of my dad, Seymour Grobel, a Jewish veteran of WWII, who devoted 4.5 years of his life in the fight against Nazis and Fascism to make the world a better place, on what would have been his 100th birthday today."

This is the Beginning

So that's a wrap, for now. As long as hatred and Nazism continue to rear their heads, we all have a job to do. This campaign proved how people from all around the country and the world can come together, quickly, to turn extremists' perceived power against them. We hope you'll stand ready to rally once again when needed.

As we close this campaign, our prayers are with the people of Houston, who even now are coping with Hurricane Harvey. We hope you'll take your giving spirit, and click here to contribute to those in need as a result of the storm:

Greetings! I hope this message finds you all well. I wanted to let you know that GoFundMe created a podcast called "True Stories of Good People," and our "Adopt-a-Nazi (Not Really)" campaign from last summer was recently featured. You can listen to the episode at the link below, or find it on iTunes.

With a white-nationalist rally planned for DC this month (one year after the tragedy in Charlottesville), there is obviously more work to be done. I hope you're all continuing the fight in your own ways -- including through compassion, civil discourse, and a dedication to uphold the values of civil rights, diversity, and tolerance that make this country great.

All the best,
Cody

Friends! We are glad to report that a tense day in San Francisco passed without any major disruption. The provocateurs tried their hardest to provoke a conflict by moving their rally at the last minute, but the tactic failed. Our beautiful City rose to the challenge by responding with compassion, resolve, openness, and classic San Francisco silliness.

This GoFundMe campaign has always been about finding a positive, non-violent way to respond to hateful and divisive rhetoric. You showed that works, and works beautifully. As our plane's banner proclaimed in the skies above the City, you raised more than $150,000 to fight hate and extremist groups.

This is the beginning, not the end. Please donate and share, until we close the campaign Sunday night.

Enjoy the rest of this wonderful weekend!

You did it!! $150K+! Today is the day of the planned rally. Apparently the organizers canceled the Crissy Field event, but are trying to provoke chaos and conflict by moving it, without notice or a permit, to the center of the City.

What they do is up to them. How we respond is up to us.

We have hit our (admittedly insane) goal of $150,000 for SPLC. Let's go for bonus points.

We are upping the goal to $165,000. We know how ambitious that is. But if you keep doing what you've been doing, we can get there by Monday.

Let's do this.
