Adopt A Family/Adopt A Classroom US
Our Dear Adopt A Family and Adopt A Classroom Family,
Your dollars are making a HUGE difference!
As you all know, when this care package initiative began we HOPED to find maybe a few dozen stateside families that could find it in their hearts to assist the people of St Thomas during what was arguable the greatest time of need in their history. What happened next, and continues to happen every day since those storms 10 months ago, is nothing short of a miracle. To date, more than 80,000 boxes have been sent to St Thomas, St Croix, St John and Puerto Rico by thousands of our Adopters from across the world. These boxes came from individuals, churches, schools, Girl and Boy Scout troops, sports teams....any sort of group you can imagine; they stepped up to help. The response we received, from people from every walk of life to send some comfort to a fellow human in need, is staggering and heartwarming.
As such, a few months ago, Adopt A Family USVI began accepting funds to allow us to keep operating and accomplish our goals. It is with that, that we come to you, yet again, asking for help..
Your recent donations have had a huge impact on our efforts. We were able to free up three sea containers from the docks on St Thomas (see below pics). Those boxed supplies are being sorted and delivered as we write this. Most of these items will go to families that are still feeling the pinch of last year's hurricanes. A portion of these supplies will be used to make "hurricane preparedness kits" for the upcoming season.
We also used your funds to pay for the shipping of 2500 pounds of school supplies to St Thomas, courtesy of the Virginia High School League. Those school supplies have been distributed to classrooms throughout the USVI.
However, outside of the shipping costs associated with these relief supplies, the USVI has over 200 classrooms that also need large ticket items that can't possibly be covered by one adopter alone. Smart Boards, computers, laptops, printers.... all destroyed by the storms have not, and likely will not, be replaced. Every single school, condemned and open, has lost the entirety of their libraries to water and mold damage. The territory and its citizens are resilient, but they still VERY much in need our help. Your donations will also go to supporting our "on the ground" troops that continue to process our boxes and distribute these supplies to the persons still feeling the effects from last year's storms.
If each one of our Adopters would donate just $5 we would be able to replace much of the things lost in the schools and pay for the shipping of the supplies already collected. We know everyone receiving this letter has already done SO much, but we come to you, yet again, asking for help for these kids.
We man firstname.lastname@example.org daily if you have any questions that you would like answered or ideas for us on how you would like to help! Several community organizations have already jumped in to help and we LOVE connecting them to our community partners.
In closing, please keep in mind the islands are nowhere near rebuilt and as we type this we are in the middle of the 2018 hurricane season, which is also predicted to break records. It is our sincere wish that Adopt A Family and Adopt A Classroom will never be needed again; but we know that just isn't realistic.
Your donations will allow us to continue on with this work. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, your compassion and your encouragement over the last 10 months. YOU are the bedrock of Adopt A Family USVI and the motivation that keeps us going. As we always say, the words “thank you” will just never be enough.
With our Undying Gratitude-
Sabrina C. Jureidini, President,
and the Adopt A Family USVI and Adopt A Classroom Team
