Sweet Adeline Raisanen was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HPLHS) at the 20 week ultrasound. In very simple terms, she would be born with half a heart. Essentially, this means that for any chance of survival, she would need a series of three open heart surgeries starting at one week old and the last being around age three. These surgeries do not fully correct the issue, but gives her heart time to grow until she will likely need a heart transplant.
This unexpected journey means a new definition of normal for the Raisanen family. Tara will be need to be home with Adeline for an undefined amount of time, possibly until she enters school. Between doctor visits, surgeries, and moving to one income, one of the greatest challenges for this family will be one of financial need.
