Adam Goes to Massage Therapy School

Donation protected
UPDATE 9/14/18

I have officially finished my massage therapy training. I am just waiting for my license to be approved by the state and I can begin my private practice. I finished school with a 4.0 GPA and 100% attendance. It's easy when it's something you love :)

I will be keeping this page live and will use any additional donations towards my student loans and any continuing education. Thank You All For Your Support Along the Way!

This is just the beginning.

THE DREAM

I have always believed that the therapeutic act of giving and receiving the healing touch of massage is an essential part of leading a healthy lifestyle, and for years I have wanted to pursue an education and certification in massage therapy. I have taken the first steps towards this dream by enrolling with the Cortiva Institute (Formerly: Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in Groton.

Other steps I’ve taken to accomplish my goals include building a website and reserving a domain name for myself at AdamCamposHealingArts.com . Over the last year I've saved up a little bit of my own money to offset the debt I will accrue, and I have gotten a head start on my massage education in earnest using resources like Khan Academy and Massage Study Buddy. I've even spent a little time researching the types of tables, chairs and other massage accessories I might need in the future. Basically, I'm finally listening to all of my friends and loved ones and I'm ready to be fully immersed in the healing arts.

Whenever I give a friend a massage it's always extremely gratifying for me to hear from them that their pains are lessened or gone. Doing amateur bodywork has always given me a charge and a sense of accomplishment making me feel rejuvenated as well but, in the back of my mind, there is always the question of whether I could be doing a better job if I were formally trained.

I want to develop not only a comprehensive understanding of muscles and anatomy but a deeper emotional understanding of those receiving bodywork. In this way, I hope to develop a practice that is more effective at soothing and taking away the physical and emotional aches and pains in the people of the community.

THE OBSTACLES

In the past, I have put this endeavor on hold for many reasons including: a lack of time, the belief that maybe waiting until next year would be better and a lack of money.

The time issue is resolved because even though I will be still working full time as an instructor at the Drunken Palette while taking classes, Felicia, the owner, is allowing me to be flexible with my schedule during my eight months of schooling.  I will also be putting on hold for the moment any new photo projects through Adam Campos Photography.

I've also finally gotten out of my own way and put in an official application for the 2018 term starting on January 22nd. I'm still young, strong, healthy and now wise enough to know that there is no better time than right now.

That leaves the money issue. I've always been bad at asking for help because as someone who is accustomed to full independence I've always found a way to make it on my own.  This time I need to swallow my pride and reach out to all of you.

THE GOAL & BEYOND

The total program cost for my massage therapy education is $16,095.95
. The cost of travel to and from class, books, materials, and the hidden cost of losing work days while studying/schooling push this number even further. I know that this total is significantly higher than my stated goal but that's because I have always intended for much/all of my own skin to be in the game. However, after learning that I am not eligible for student aid and encountering several other financial life obstacles I decided that this was one journey I should not try to tackle alone.

My long-term life goal is to never stop the process of learning, sharing, and healing. I will become certified in numerous states, eventually developing a mobile massage and healing arts center. This is a bigger dream for the future, but as stated by Lao Tzu "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Step one is paying for school and graduating. If I raise money beyond my set goal I will be able to continue to invest in more schooling after to become certified in other healing arts practices. My desire is to have a home base for my practice in New London but periodically travel all over the country and the world, sharing with others as I go and learning everything I can. In this way, I will constantly bring new and exciting healing arts knowledge back to the community that supported me.

-My massage therapy website is under construction and will show up as an informational/coming soon page until I graduate and have established the details of my services. The supporters page and home page will be visible immediately and I will add names in the order that donations are received.

Thank you all so much for your love and support :)
