Hi all! Thank you for taking the time to visit our page! :)
The Appalachian Trail is a 2,189.2 mile footpath from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt. Kathadin in Maine. It runs through forests, fields, valleys, straight up the sides of mountains, and even through towns. Call us crazy, but we have decided that we are going to hike its entire length in 6 months (aka thru-hike). We plan to start our hike in early April of 2016 and expect to finish sometime in early October.
Weekend trip on the trail in New Jersey with Kelly and Perk. Both of them are finishing their thru-hikes this fall!
Unfortunately, hiking for 6 months through the mountains costs more than you would think. The average cost to thru-hike is around $4000/person ($2/mile) but ranges from $2000 to as much as $9000! We will be working and saving as much as we possibly can prior to our departure date, but as you probably know, travel isn't cheap! We have set up this fundraiser to help cover some of our expenses. Donations will go to on-trail expepnses (mainly food, but also gear replacements and the occasional hostel) and will be hugely appreciated!!
We are stoked for the trip and have been planning it for a long time. This trip is not like any other trip or vacation. It is a quest to push our bodies and mind to the limit. It is a physical, mental, and financial challenge. We will be tested by the elements, expirience all weather conditions, and hike through sun, rain, and snow. All daily comforts of life we will go without. There are no Tv's, showers, or even beds to find comfort in after a long day and that is just the begining.
