A Cup of Everything Needs Your Help

“A Cup of Everything Needs Your Help” Go Fund Me campaign is way out of our comfort zone, but desperate times require desperate measures. Asking for help is something Helen or I don’t like to do and are we very uncomfortable with it. We both have worked hard to handle our own problems and try very hard to manage all that befalls us.

When we started A Cup of Everything, we had a dream and a vision for a place in downtown Huntsville that offers exceptional coffee, quality food, conveniences and a place where we could support other local businesses in a welcoming, comfortable environment. We created a place where folks met to have a bite to eat and actually hear each other in conversation.  A Cup of Everything became a place where professionals met with clients over breakfast, where groups met to “solve the world’s problems” over a cup of coffee and where friends gathered to share a bottle of wine.  Our shop was a mix between a bodega and a public house where all were welcome.

While we were successful in creating the kind of environment we imagined – a community – where people enjoyed coming and returning. Unfortunately, we were never able to create an income that met our expenses.

We have lost a lot of sleep over the last few years and are constantly worrying. We both have been doing a lot of praying and asking for guidance. I, Cathy, keep finding myself hoping for an “Its’ a Wonderful Life” moment where the town comes out to help George. I know it sounds hokey but that seemed like what we really needed, small offerings from a lot of people that added up to what could help us. One of the things that continually pops up in the news or my Facebook feed is stories about "Go Fund Me," or news that Facebook now offers a funding campaign mechanism. We even went to a local event recently that was about crowd funding a new restaurant coming to town. But, every time I thought about using Go Fund Me, I just didn’t feel like I could ask for help.

Albeit uncomfortable, we decided to explore this concept some more.  We read through the “Go Fund Me” Business & Entrepreneur listings, we saw some efforts that were about helping to keep a business open. Unfortunately, it is too late for A Cup of Everything to stay open. Quite honestly, we probably kept A Cup of Everything open two years longer that we should have. So, we could really use some help because we are in a deep financial hole of loans and other debt.

So, if you wished you could come into A Cup of Everything one more time to buy a latte, a buzzkill or choco-presso, grab a vegan BLT and go upstairs to see some local artist’s work, sit at the bar with a beer or a glass of wine and chat with one of the team or Helen or me, then maybe you could find your way to support our “A Cup of Everything Needs Your Help” Go Fund Me effort.

If something like a Go Fund Me isn’t  your cup of tea, then Helen and I only ask that the next time you make a choice regarding where to go that you think about supporting locally owned business.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for all the people we met and for the support we were given over the last three years.  Especially, we are grateful for prayers, good wishes, and condolences as we close A Cup of Everything.
