What is our plan?
As students Biomedical Sciences and Human Movement Sciences at Maastricht University, we are very interested in the (bio)medical aspects of movement of disabled individuals. But in our opinion, we should not only learn about the technical side of disabilities, but also about the human aspect. What are the struggles that people with a disability face on a daily basis? How does it feel to walk a mile in their shoes?
That is why we would like to participate in the Ability Battle Hackathon (ABH) at the University Medical Centre in Groningen. During the hackathon, 6 university teams design an educational programme through which the consequences of living with a disability becomes more apparent. What do we need?
We are supported by the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences / department of Human Movement Sciences. A part of our financial costs have already been tackled, but we still need € 1.500 so that we can achieve our goal of successfully completing the Ability Battle Hackathon challenge and conference in December 2018.
Those € 1.500 will cover accommodation, travel costs and a team uniform.
If we collect more than € 1.500, we will donate that extra money to a charity organisation that is related to rehabilitation.
What do we offer our sponsors?
Well, first of all we are representing the Maastricht University community! Let’s hope we can make you proud and bring back the winner’s honour!
Apart from that, we will randomly select two people from ALL SPONSORS (regardless of how much they have donated) and give them the opportunity to try out some of the equipment we have been using ourselves. These include the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) (on which you can test your aerobic exercise capacity) and the CAREN system (a virtual reality gait analysis device - https://www.mumc.nl/actueel/mumc-tv/3854451821001-flight-simulator-voor-maastricht-umc). The winners can choose themselves which activity they would prefer!
