Aaliyah's Story

On Thursday, April 12, 2018 around 6 PM, 5 year old Aaliyah Rivera woke up from a nap with an excruciating pain in her head. Her mother rushed her to the emergency room where they found out she was hemorrhaging in her brain. It’s a rare condition called (AVM) Arteriovenous malformation. AVM is a tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain. It is a condition that she was born with. As she grew, the veins and arteries continued to have pressure on them which then caused the hemorrhage in her brain.

She has already had three surgeries in the first few days of being diagnosed. There will be more to come in the next few weeks to months. She will have to have extensive rehabilitation after the surgeries are complete.

Her mother, Tiffany Diaz, is a single mother who works very hard at two jobs to support her two beautiful, precious little girls. Tiffany’s other daughter is named Jozali Diaz and is 8 years old. Tiffany is in need of support during this critical time because she needs to be with her daughter Aaliyah 24 hours a day. There is also a need for care for Jozali while her mother Tiffany is with Aaliyah. Their extended family is in New York and New Jersey so there will be a need for babysitting for Jozali.
