There’s a reason you can't spell STEAM without "team!" We need your help!

My name is Susan White. I am the Kindergarten - 5th Grade STEAM teacher at Arkansas Arts Academy in Rogers, AR.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

A MakerSpace is an inspiring, engaging environment, where student ideas can thrive and come to fruition using the STEAM approach to learning. From furniture and tools to software and invention kits, we need resources to build our MakerSpace and, more importanlty, a culture of students who:

· take thoughtful risks

· persist in real world problem-solving

· design using the creative process

· embrace collaboration

We need to secure funds to transform our blank space:

into a MakerSpace:

This will be a safe place for students to get their hands dirty, applying the knowledge from their core classrooms to projects, experiments, and challenges that ignite their passion and inspire their future endeavors.

STEAM projects for the students include:

·         Community beautification (gardening, murals, etc.)

·         Coding/Gaming/Robotics projects

·         Engineering challenges

·         Creating simple machines

·         Circuitry

·         Woodworking

·         Real-world problem solving ("How can we keep the squirrels from stealing food from our campus birdhouses?")

·         Independent projects created by the students themselves!

Your funding will bring our vision to life by providing the following resources:

·         Hand Tools

·         Circuitry Kits

·         Makey Makey Invention Kits

·         Project-based learning software

·         Lumber

·         Sink installation

·         Hardwiring for student computers

·         Functional storage/furniture pieces

Your donation will be a long lasting investment in the students of Northwest Arkansas. Not only are you providing resources to help them reach their creative potential through design and experiential learning, you are  making it known that you believe kids can change the world!

Thank you so much for considering our project! #WeLoveTeachers

We did it, folks! Thanks to families, Google, The Amazeum, NWA3D, our students, and people all over the planet who believe in these kids and their creativity, we have surpassed our goal and raised more than $3300 for a quality Maker Space in our school!

This means exciting ideas and possibilities will not be limited by lack of resources for these kiddos. Thank you so much for your support, and I cannot wait to show you the progress of our program that YOU have made possible!

Stay tuned for pictures of how we will celebrate this milestone. (I think our principal deserves a little pie this time...)

This week we are examining how tensile structures work by building frames for bubbles to stretch across. We also spent time constructing explanations for why bubbles always came out as spherical, even if our bubble wands were not circular. Amazing insights and discussion, even from our youngest minds!

Next week will be our last week in the Maker Space for this school year. It will also mark the closing of this campaign. We are just a few hundred dollars away from our final goal to create a stellar infrastructure in which these kids can bring their ideas to life and solve all sorts of real world problems. Please share where you can for just one more week :)

The NWA3D fundraiser was a wonderful experience. Please check out all the great things their team does for the community!

Through your generosity and a helping hand from the Amazeum, we were able to raise $250 for each participating school!

This puts us less than $500 away from our goal with only about a week left before we close the campaign. Let's do this!

Thanks, everyone, for a great event!
