33015144_153713189011491_r.jpegHello all,

My husband has been recently diagnosed with a panic disorder and agoraphobia. We now find ourselves in need of a service dog as one method to help him cope with the symptoms of this debilitating mental  illness. For starters, he has found himself unable to leave the house without a lot of coaxing due to the multiple panic attacks which he suffers from at random times on a daily basis. Unfortunately, the costs associated with training and raising a psychiatric service dog are quite expensive, and we're unable to afford them on our own. This is where all of you come in; we're reaching out to you for help in defraying the training and certification costs of the dog, which can take upwards of two years in some cases.

At present, my husband's ability to work and contribute to the community have been severely impacted. It is my hope that once trained, his dog – along with additional coping mechanisms from therapy – will enable him to participate in the activities which he used to enjoy, and dearly wants to be able to take part in again.

Due to my husband's inability to function outside of the home, let alone work, it is extremely urgent that we get as much help as we can and as soon as possible since I am currently the main source of income for our household. Training a service dog in addition to other therapies which he has recently started will help my husband resume a fully functioning lifestyle once more. Utilities, mortgage, two car notes, rising medical costs... they all add up and are incredibly taxing on our already stressful environment.

With our trainer on holiday haitus for the last 2 weeks, we've been working hard with Rommel on the basic stuff. He's been responding really well to hand signals in lieu of verbal commands. Getting onto escalators is proceeding well; he only had to be bribed twice today.
As always, thank you all for your support! Share early and often!

Rommel had a busy day! We want to Walmart, then to Lowe's and after that... Petsmart for his first professional bath! This was his first amount of alone time with strangers. (I'm not sure who was more distressed by this, Rommel or Tony. ) It was a definite exercise in training opportunity. The three hours Rommel was at Petsmart showed us how dependent Tony has become on their partnership, and how much we need to work on Rommel's behavior. He did good for his 1st time being handled by strangers without our presence. Rommel's still very much a puppy, but we do need to work on his jumping on people and being able to sit still for bathing and grooming.

Thank you to everyone for their support, whether it's a kind word, a monetary donation or even just a share to help us out. We appreciate it all <3 <3

Training update: Rommel is progressing nicely. Heel, sit, down, and stay are starting to become automatic. He got onto two escalators yesterday, which has been a hurdle (so proud of our little man)!
I want to thank everyone who's donated thus far, and please keep on sharing, and if you're able, donate!

Rommel's first group training with his family went well! He's so incredibly food driven, we had no trouble getting him to learn how to heel and behave around his cousins and a littermate.

Thank you to the Apex German Shepherd family!
