Our mission is to empower young girls in grades 3rd through 5th to become strong, independent, effective leaders, and caring citizens . We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential.
Our Girl Power program is a girls-only, safe space gathering that meets bi-weekly during school hours from 7:15am to 8:15am and one Saturday each month at community centers, youth serving organizations and other facilities for our community service projects. We have about 37 girls in the mentoring group and many more on a waiting list. These girls are from low income homes and will benefit from the mentoring program by receiving the necessary life skills to become productive citizens. Girls are exposed to tools that promote identity and personal vision, social and emotional skills, moral character, work ethic, and career and college readiness.
The opportunity to attend the viewing of the movie, Hidden Figures, will allow the mentees to learn the story of three incredible African American women. Like these girls, the women were able to persevere through challenges unique to African American women. In addition, Hidden Figures, will benefit the mentees by exposing them to the idea that they can be successful in a male dominated career field. Prior to seeing this movie, the students will be using their researching skills to learn more about these women's stories, and discuss the relevance to their own lives and goals for the future.
We are looking to raise money to fund the movie tickets, transportation and food. These girls will earn their ticket by completing the research and the assignments. We will apperciate your donation for a great cause!
