A random act of kindness rewarded

I was driving home just after 1am on Friday the 18th of August. Just as I pulled up to a red light about 1/2 a mile from my house, a distraught man ran into the intersection and attempted to commit suicide by getting run over by the traffic. He ended up on his knees across the street from where was stopped and I could hear him begging the tow truck driver in front of him to run him over and end his life. My light turned green and just as I started to go, someone from a few cars behind the tow truck got out of their car and gently collected the man from the street and walked him over to the sidewalk and sat with him to console him. 

I had to know who this person was that reacted to the traffic being stopped in front of him with compassion, not anger. I pulled into the parking lot just behind them and parked. I was shocked to find, once I was close enough to get a good look, that it was just a young kid in his early 20’s, dressed in his work outfit and covered in dirt. After he was done speaking to the police, I approached him to tell him how much his selfless act of kindness had moved me. I found out that he had been at work since 4am and was on his way home to go to sleep. 

I walk around everyday searching for people that inspire me and renew my faith in humanity and it’s becoming harder and harder to find. What this kid did moved me to tears and I can’t think of any other way to reward him than with a little bit of extra spending money to remind him that what he did that night not only may have saved a man’s life, but inspired everyone that will hear this story like a domino effect of positivity. 

Please help me to raise just just enough for him to go somewhere nice and forever know that it was that one selfless act that sent him there.
