A Man In Need After A Miracle

Donation protected
Chris and I are Childhood friends. We kept in touch. However, we had not seen each other in many years. We both had 4 days off of work and decided to call it a vacation; be kids again and go to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo. I drove three hours to pick Chris up and we continued the additional two hour drive to KC. We checked into our hotel rooms and Chris seemed fine. Later that evening Chris was not feeling well but eventually went to bed, at 3 AM I went to check on him and found him on the floor, unresponsive. As a paramedic I knew this was something horrible. I called 911. KCFD took him to North Kansas City Hospital. A CT was done and it showed that Chris had suffered 2 spontaneous brain bleeds. He had a 1.6 cm right to left midline shift and was beginning to herniate.

Time stood still. I was at a loss for words.

Being in the medical field, I was worried I was watching my friend die. The chances of fixing this in time were almost nonexistent. Luckily, a neurosurgeon was already enroute to the hospital for rounds, they sent him the CT results and he arrived less than 10 mins later.

I waited hours not knowing if Chris would live or die. He went to the  ICU, was intubated, had lines everywhere, and had a crainiotomy with bone flap (a piece of skull removed). Chris's bone flap won't be replaced until sometime after the 12 week mark.

Chris is working hard to recover and his surviving this  was truly a miracle. He is now without any insurance coverage and is financially devastated. He worked full time all of his adult life. I brought him to my home in St. Louis to do my best to help him recover, as there is no insurance to cover a rehab center. Chris has no income now and is in immediate and desperate need of money for prescriptions, PT, and OT. As well as for the trips and hotel rooms to go back to KC for check ups with the neurosurgeon and the further surgery to replace the bone flap. He is also very stressed about keeping his bills paid for when the time comes that he can return home. Chris has a long road ahead of him but he remains grateful, humble,  and determined to live his life. ANY monetary donation is truly appreciated and direly needed. This is a man who would give anyone the shirt off of his back if they needed it more than him.

Thank you for reading this and for any potential help provided.
