I met uncle Ted a year ago when I stumbled into what I thought was a random jewelry store in Kaimuki. What I didn’t realize was that I was about to meet one of the kindest people I have ever known and someone who would have a lasting impact on me…

a little about Uncle Ted: He established his jewelry shop here in Hawai’i in 1989. When he first came to the United States, he worked as a civil engineer, but eventually discovered his true passion in designing and creating jewelry. His love for creating beautiful works of art in gold and silver for people from all walks of life is what has kept him going for nearly four decades.

Even through many health challenges, he continues to show up everyday, sometimes even after his dialysis appointments just so he can see his customers. He says that going to his store and seeing people come through his door is what truly keeps him going. His family would love nothing more than for him to slow down and put his health first, but anyone who knows him knows how much his store and customers mean to him. He often says that going to his store, creating jewelry, and seeing people come through his door are what keeps him going. The shop has never been just work to him; it is a huge part of his life, his purpose, and his connection to the community. Uncle Ted is the true meaning of what it is to have “Aloha Spirit.”

I started this go fund me not as a way to retire him overnight, but to give him some breathing room. The financial burden of his ongoing medical expenses has been incredibly difficult, and I want to help ease some of that stress so he can focus on what matters most: his health, his family, and the community of people he’s spent decades showing up for.
