A Journey to Peace: Eirene's Middle East Adventure

Hello everyone!
My name is Eirene and I am a year 11 student at Melbourne Girls’ College in Melbourne, Victoria. From a young age, the intricacies and fascinations of theology and its context in global societies has captured my imagination, though specifically after I was gifted my first “Religions of the World” book when I was six years old.
An excursion to the Islamic Museum of Australia five years ago saw to the evolvement of my more refined interest in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. It is a dream of mine to travel to this region of the world, and given much of the conflict occurring there at the moment, contribute to peace efforts in some shape or form. However, I believe this must start with education and understanding, which is why I have set up this GoFundMe page!
In June this year, I was selected by UN Youth Australia as one of 16 high school students from applicants across the country to take part in their Middle East Experience program.
The Middle East Experience is an educational program focused on teaching Australian high school students about nationalism, religion and the state in the Middle East. The tour will be examining the rich history of Israel and Jordan, as well as going beyond the headlines we see in current media to gain a holistic understanding of the issues the region faces.
The delegation will travel to Israel and Jordan, and incorporate consultations with relevant NGO’s, diplomats, academics, politicians, refugee and peace groups, and UN personnel. The tour will also involve visiting sites with a deep importance, such as Yad Vashem, the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock and Petra.
UN Youth Australia is a non-profit organisation and unfortunately does not have the funds to finance the trip for each delegate. Therefore, the cost of this opportunity will be upwards of $8,250 per delegate, which will go towards airfares, insurance, accommodation and educational costs. I am currently undertaking fundraising initiatives to meet this goal, as I will be required to fund this trip on my own. One of these initiatives is kickstarting my own GoFundMe page, where I hope to raise approximately $5000.
Any size of donation will be of great assistance to my efforts in fundraising. I am very grateful to all that do so. Please consider donating, and thank you again.
