a disasterous post-surgery water bill

Donation protected
On January 30th I was discharged from the hospital following an overnight stay during which they removed a cancerous tumor from me. I was tired, but relieved, and ready to go home. My spouse and I had been gone for 2 days because of this operation.

Our home, an old house in massachusetts, was set to run on steam heat for those two days. Our old Peerless tankless oil burner would (so we thought) shut off once it was out of water. But from the photo above, perhaps you can guess... it did not operate as it should have, due to age and rust damaging the componants.

So what did i find the minute i walked into my home straight from surgery? a flooded basement.

The boiler had run out of water some time in those two days. It hadattempted to keep going. This cracked the boiler (which we replaced) and plunged the basement into a deep freeze which - and here is where the fundraiser comes in - caused pipes to burst, flooding the basement with about six inches of water. Which is a lot of fun in new england winter, let me tell you!! After several days of crisis, we once again had heat and hot water and a (mostly) dry basement.

I'm healed from my surgery now
the boiler is replaced now
the pipes are repaired now

BUT.... the water bill for that flood has come in. And that, we could still do with some help for.

The bill is due at the end of March. The bill itself is somewhere around 600$, but I added extra in case of late fees and GFM fees and anything else.

Thank you for considering helping me out!
