Help for Zoey and Paige
Zoey was overjoyed to be spending the day with her sisters and me. It was going to be a girl’s day enjoying a dolphin cruise, and Zoey had been anxiously counting down the days for this rare treat! The forecast called for clouds, but sunshine abounded and the afternoon could not have been more perfect for the duo.
While passing the time before picking up her sisters before their great adventure, I had been pet sitting for a neighbor and she wanted me to come over to discuss a few new things she wanted me to do for the dogs while she was out of town. I was standing on the back porch chatting with the neighbor, the two dogs played nearby. As Zoey tapped on the window to get her my attention, one of the dogs immediately attacked her, without warning and viciously. The male pit-bull yanked Zoey by her precious little face as I struggled to yank the animal off her. The dog was still attacking Zoey relentlessly and wouldn’t let go, so her I threw herself on top of Zoey, shielding my sweet girl from the continuous attack. As thoughts of losing my daughter spun through my mind, both pit-bulls continued to viciously attack me, causing life threatening wounds to both my daughter and myself.
We were transported to separate hospitals, Zoey underwent extensive surgery.
Zoey was transported to the best equipped hospital by helicopter and spent over 10 hours in the operating room while surgeons worked tirelessly to repair the many wounds the dogs left behind. Along with other serious wounds, Zoey suffered from a shattered jaw and her eyelid had been completely torn off by the pit-bull. My precious baby girl will continue to undergo surgeries in the future to repair the damages that remain, including skin grafting and eyelid reconstruction/lift.
At another hospital, doctors worked to repair the wounds her I sustained. Specialists reattached part of my ear that had been ripped off. Doctors also repaired damages to my knee along with several gashes to my head all caused by the mauling.
For me, the several hours waiting for my daughter while she was undergoing her lengthy 10 hour surgery were the most grueling hours of my life. I had to wait for the news of my daughter’s condition, praying Zoey would survive. Understandably, those hours are painful to relive in my mind.
We are ecstatic to report that although this attack was very recent and her wounds are still fresh, this brave young fighter is on the mend and out of physical pain! Sweet Zoey still suffers extensive internal wounds which will take much longer to heal, but she gets through it by spending her days very close me and a sleeping in my bed at night for comfort and reassurance.
Marissa Brown, it doesn't happen with any breed, and CAN'T. Coming here to stick up for the most despised of all canines when yet another pit bull has torn the flesh from ever more people has shown you to be a narcissistic, selfish, delusional, and incredibly rude person. Speedy recovery to the victims of the pit bulls.
Wow thank you for all your support. My name is paige and zoey is my daughter. We were mauled and viciously attacked by a pit bull. No this was not a neighbors dog. I answered an add to feed the animals. As far as homeowners insurance it looks like they don't have any. As far as the question about her hair. I am the one always taking pictures so i am behind the camera, so the picture of myself and daughter was taken almost a year ago. Yes her hair is shorter and it got a little darker from both age and blood. I am sorry peopke are upset that a pit is being blamed but it was a pit that did this. If it was a pug i would say a pug attacked me. I am sorry someone found offense to the breed of dog being called out. Like i said if another breed did i would of called that breed out. My daughter and i have a long road ahead and i am so appreciative to any help. The smallest prayer is as helpful as anything and well wishes. There is no need to be hateful all we are trying to do is heal. Please respect that and use that contempt towards a worthier cause
Definitely praying! Side note, I'm also praying for all of those weak minded people that feel it necessary to argue on here about a dog breed. Focus on what is important, focus on the intention for the campaign... To raise FUNDS for the family in need, NOT to raise any sort of awareness pro or con pit bull's. Blessings to everyone.
All the pit defenders can go jump off a cliff!! Stop saying it can happen with any other breed! No, it doesn't happen with other non-fighting breeds! Pits, Rotts and Bull Mastiffs make up the majority of maimings and deaths, so STOP THE DISINFORMATION!! And yes, we do need action on this terrible pitbull attack epidemic! You nutters don't want to do anything to fix the situation, and have proven to be the worst dog owners of any breed!
My prayers are with you and your little girl Zoey, I am so sorry this tragic incident occurred. I am also so sorry for the "dog" owners that feel it is necessary to "defend" or worry about the breed that committed this horrific act and they should be ashamed, this is not the place to address this. This page is for offering financial and emotional support to this Mother and Daughter who have a long physical and emotional recovery ahead. Bless you Paige and Zoey
To those that say the breed of dog should not be brought up on this page, I say they are trying to sweep the problem under the rug! We all wish Zoey and Paige the best and easiest recovery possible. But the very reason they are having to endure all this pain, suffering and financial loss is due to a PITBULL, not a lab, not a pointer, not a poodle! And these serious pitbull attacks like this happen on a DAILY BASIS, so we must make this epidemic known and hold the breed and it's notoriously irresponsible owners responsible! This should not happen to another family, and we know how to prevent it, which is strict regulation of pitbulls and other fighting breeds like Mastiffs, Cane Corsos, Dogo Argentinos, and Rotts!!
I am so sorry that you and your daughter have become yet more victims of a pit bull attack. Thank God you both survived. As an pit bull attack victim, I know the road ahead of you is paved with PTSD, medical treatment, and lots of tears. But you are already survivors and I'll pray for your speedy recoveries! www.dogsbite.org has a ton of info for pit bull attack survivors.
I truly hope that these sadistic mutants both received bullets between their eyes. It's ridiculous that we know so many people whose children were mauled and/or killed by this breed. It has to stop. Now. God bless your precious child. This is heart breaking and should NEVER have happened. Thanks pit bull owners. Jerks.
While I feel for your family, this could have happened with ANY breed. I've been bitten/lunged at by more small dogs or "family pets" than anything. Some dogs just have a mean streak, and unfortunately in this instance it was a pitbull. I also heard this was a neighbors dog or a neighbors property. Their home insurance might cover your medical bills: good luck.
Gerri Hicks I am sorry, but that is so far from the truth. Let me first address insurance. My husband had just started a new job which meant we are not eligible for 90 days through his job. When the attacked happened we had nothing. I just got approved for medicaid. Also not all physicians take Molina which is medicaid, so two of the doctors she has seen are not covered. The eye institute does not take Molina. The life flight that my daughter took medicaid will not cover. The trip to Miami will not be covered, the food will not be covered, the housing will not be covered. Now the home owners insurance does not exist because the home the people were staying in is in the process of foreclosure. The owner had passed away and the daughter and granddaughter were staying there until the bank took possession. I have been seeking help from two different law firms, and there is no money due to the fact that there is no home and owners insurance and the bank holding the lien is claiming they aren't liable since they have yet to take ownership of the home. Yes, I can sue and yes the judge would rule in our favor but did you know all you have to do is file bankruptcy and the judgement goes into the trash. The community has been amazing and I am so sorry you are offended. I am so thankful that others understand our situation and do not share your opinion. Medicaid and the beloved Obama care does not cover every specialist and Doctor out there. I am sorry that I want my daughter to have a chance for a normal life. I am also sorry that I am being so humble to ask for assistance from others. Honestly i am a little surprised that someone having a child that has dealt with this would react this way. If i have to ask for assistance because the system is so backward that the owners face no repercussions and I'm left holding the bag of hundreds of thousands in medical bills to make sure my daughter can lead as normal a life as possible then so be it. Any parent that isn't willing to reach out and do what's best for their child should be ashamed!
I'm praying for your little girl and family. The comment here about the hair maybe before you leave comments or judge or whatever it is most people do these days watch the news...stop judging...stop assuming. I wish I could upload the news screen shots I have cause people with the audacity to assume someone is here using a child for money or you bringing stress to the family is so wrong. Once again I pray for this little girl and the family. I'm sorry for all y'all are going through.
It doesn't happen with every breed, and even the best of owners, with good intentions and though rarely, even those pitbulls with obedience training- are the number 1 maulers on this planet. It is the breed. Prayers for this remarkable mother and her child. Kudo's to you for bringing the danger of that breed forward so that others may protect themselves. ♥
