Zelda's story
Without any prior signs or symptoms, Zelda woke up on 27th March 2019 unable to move at all. After some scans at the vet she was diagnosed with "Wobblers" where a prolapsed spinal disc was causing compression of her spinal cord at the C5-6 level. Without emergency spinal decompression surgery, she would have been permanently completely paralysed. It's now 3 weeks post surgery and Zelda can move her limbs and wag her tail. She can prop herself up for short periods of time. But she cannot walk or stand or toilet herself on her own yet. She needs full time nursing care and rehab daily. We have admitted her to "The Vet Practice, Whittlesea" which is a 24-hour vet hospital with a rehab centre. The vets, nurses and rehab technicians have been wonderful in helping and caring for Zelda and she's improved so much already. But it's still a long way to go. The vet surgeons were confident that she would walk again in 6 weeks. But until she can walk on her own, she needs full time care, which is expensive. The spinal surgery alone cost $6000. Rehab and board is costing around $2000/week. She gets physiotherapy, laser therapy, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy as part of her rehab. She's also needed medications for pain, anxiety, and diarrhoea. Not to mention the regular vet examinations and assessments. All of this combined will give her the best chance of making a recovery, even if she can't run and chase a ball again, if she can just walk then that will be enough for us to be able to take her home.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!!!!
So why is this such a big deal and what does it mean???? Well think of it like this.........
A once hyperactive, extremely energetic Weimeraner pure breed who has at least 7 years of life left, has in a split second become a quadriplegic.
Due to her extensive post operative care requirements along with the the necessary intensive rehabilitation therapy sessions, we admitted Zelda to "The Vet Practice" rehabilitation clinic located on Plenty Road, Whittlesea, thus ensuring she receives the highest care possible resulting in the largest chance of a full recovery.
So as not to hinder or halt her chances of recovery, as her medical needs are extremely costly due to the severity of both her surgery and post operative condition/care, any donation is a big help and you have played a massive part in Zelda's future.
So please.... Follow, join, subscribe, donate, read, keep updated and trust me, like myself when I first met her, and all that have ever come across her spirit, you will fall in love with the soul and personality that is the most determined canine on the planet, Zelda.
I just want say a huge thank you to everyone who gets involved to show their support, but especially the entire staff at "The Vet Practice, Whittlesea".
