ZHS Honoring DDay Vets 75th Anniv.

Our trip is scheduled for June of 2019, the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Invasion of WWII. 

The funds from this project will cover a portion of the costs for the logistics of the trip, e.g. transportation, lodging, meals. We have many fund raising efforts going on to reach our goal and this is a piece of a huge "funding pie". The total cost of the trip is $72,000, or approximately $3000 per student, so we still have a very long way to go with funding.

The purpose of the June 2019 trip is for an honor platoon composed of 21 high school Army JROTC Cadets to participate in the commemoration ceremonies and activities commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Normandy D-Day Invasion of WWII.

Most WWII veterans have passed on so it's now time for the youth of America to learn about the sacrifices of those who served and supported our military forces during WWII and to keep the memories alive.

Our Cadets will not only be representing our school and community, but will be representing our home state of Louisiana as well as our nation during these activities and ceremonies.    

On the trip we will participate in ceremonies at the U.S. Cemetery at Omaha Beach as well as in parades in the Normandy Region.  We will visit the historically significant sites in the Normandy area as well as some in Paris.

This will truly be a grand learning experience for our Cadets that will not only include the visits to Normandy and Paris, France, but will include an extensive "train up" for the trip.  The train up will include WWII history with a focus on the Normandy Invasion, the geography and demographics of the Normandy Region, learning a bit of the French language and customs, and how the events leading up to and including the Normandy Invasion or relevant to our lives today.
