Send Your Gift to Nepal!

Hi Everyone,

As most of you know by now that an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 hit my country Nepal on April 25th, 2015. There has been a lot of destruction and casualties of more than 5000. Nepal has had 61 earthquakes only in the last seven days.

Most of my family lives in Nepal, mostly around Kathmandu, and Nuwakot district. My parents were visiting the US for my engagement ceremony which was last weekend, the same time while these events were unfolding back home. We heard that our home in Kathmandu got some cracks. My father was born in Nuwakot district and the house he was born is half destroyed. However, we are few of the fortunate ones that our family and friends are safe. There are millions of others who need help.

My fiancé and I decided to put together our engagement gifts, pair them with some personal contribution and use employer matching to donate to a trusted relief fund which will help Nepal.  We will be donating to YasodaDevi  BhagawanSingh KC (YBK) Memorial Trust (http://www.janapukar.com/news-2015-04-27-21-21-43-16210.html).  It is a Non-Profit registered in Nepal for the last seven years and has run more than 25 health camps and provides scholarships to underprivileged students every year in Nuwakot district in Nepal. Currently, Nuwakot is one of the largely impacted districts due to the earthquake.

YBK trust is run by my family and my father himself will be a part of the committee who will be going to different parts of Nuwakot and distributing the funds and ensuring that it reaches to the people in need. Therefore, I personally believe that the funds will be going to the right people and as soon as possible.

I would encourage you to contribute in providing support to those affected in Nepal. If you are interested in donating to YasodaDevi BhagawanSingh KC Memorial Trust, please donate here. I will make sure to transfer the collected amount to the trust every few days.

There are various other options/organizations that you can donate to. I compiled a list of few organizations that are known for doing good work in Nepal, alongside their charity effectiveness ratings (see below).  Before donating to any other organization, please verify its authenticity.

Agency: Rating (via CharityNavigator)
Global Giving: globalgiving.org (96.26)
Unicef: unicef.org (95.26)
Save the Children: savethechildren.org (93.48)

Thank you for your help!

Prajani
