Help for Whitnie Sullivan
On July 3, 2018 my sister, Whitnie Sullivan, was viciously attacked with a box cutter on her way to pick up an extra shift at Walgreens in Erie, PA.
Whitnie sustained many cuts and lacerations which include a 4" long slice across the front of her neck that nicked the cartilage around her thyroid and a large cut that starts just below her eye and goes all the way down past her jaw (that cut went all the way down to the bone). She also had to have a tracheotomy done in order to take the pressure off the tissue around her thyroid while it heals. She'll have that in for at least a few more days.
Whitnie is a walking miracle. The surgeon says that the cut across her neck was only 2mm away from killing her. She continues to smile through everything. She is expected to make a full recovery but it will take time.
While we believe her medical bills will be covered, Whitnie will be out of work for a while and her bills are going to add up fast. We don't want her to have to go back to work any sooner than she has to. Every little bit helps! Thank you!!
Regular updates can be found on Facebook, link attached below.
I'm also attaching some of the news stories that have been printed
THE HOLE IS CLOSED!!! FINALLY!!! We can't decide if we're glad or disappointed but the hearing today was postponed. The defense asked for more time for psychiatric evaluations. As for Whitnie, this gives her a little more time to get ready to be in the same room with her attacker. She is strong and has recovered well but, she admitted she was a "little" anxious about today.
Shane and I got to meet several of the customers at Davis County Kitchen that showed up for lunch today just to see Whit.
Whitnie and I groomed and bathed the dogs while Shane fixed the roof on the garage. We made a quick round at the Roar on the Shore then home to pack. It was a great day. From here on out we'll probably just do weekly updates (on Facebook) unless we have something special to report.
Once again, we would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers and don't worry Erie, you haven't seen the last of Whitnie. She'll be back with the same sweet spirit and great big smile we all love!
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated. I cannot express how much we appreciate your generosity and support!
Whitnie has been discharged from speech therapy & physical therapy!
Whitnie had a really rough night sleeping. But she's been walking around the room, ate all her breakfast and is looking forward to her first real shower today!
They're hoping that they will try to plug the trach today but, again, we're waiting to hear from the doctors.
My mom did send a picture this morning though Whit is definitely looking good!
From my mom:
She's won't be talking on the phone for a few more days but she can talk to doctors, nurses, etc. She is tolerating the speech valve very well!!
