Wheels for Allan

I've a very dear friend, one of my oldest, that I've known since second grade. We met on the playground in elementary school and it's a friendship that's lasted a lifetime though miles lay between us.
Those of us who knew Allan Newell from those early years remember him as a fun, bright, personable guy who loved to laugh. A kid who, despite having disabilities from birth, ran, biked, played basketball right along side us.
At some point in adulthood things changed and Al found himself in a wheel chair but still he was undaunted. Al continued to do all the things he cherished, held down a job, worked on cars, and hi-fi equipment and raised children.
As of late though the difficulties of the flesh as taking a toll on Al as they are all of us pushing 60 years. Only in recent years it has become so difficult for Al to manage working full time that he has filled for disability. Al has worked steadily since high school when one of his first jobs was a summer janitors assistant, to salesman at Radio Shack, financial services to name a few. Al likely could have been drawing disability all these years but that wasn't his character. His character was to continue working while his mind was sharp and his mobility not too hampered.
Al recently shared a desire to own a light weight wheelchair that would be less difficult to load into his car as his current heavy one is wearing his shoulder joints out. Most insurances, including Medicare, don't cover lightweights.
I share all this as a way to introduce him to those of you who'll likely never meet him. I do this because I want to help Al get that lightweight chair and I want to give you a chance to help. 
It will mean the world to Al to maintain him mobility and independence. I can't thank you enough for stopping to read about Al and hopefully you'll be moved to contribute.
