Walter's Medical Fund

Donation protected

The weekend of May 20th, 2016 was supposed to be filled with great times, making new family memories, and good music for our friend and co-worker, Walter Whitaker; he had taken a road trip to Ohio with his father and sister to see Dave Matthews play at the Blossom Music Center on Saturday night. Tragically, the hotel they were staying in caught fire in the very early hours of that Saturday morning. Although Walter survived the fire, he suffered 3rd degree burns on 60% of his body. Even more devastating, his sister, whom he was extremely close to, did not survive. His father suffered from smoke inhalation but is okay, all things considered.

Walter has two young boys that are the spitting image of him and that he loves spending time with. He’s a wonderful father and being able to get back to those boys is probably going to be a huge motivation for him during this healing process. As well as being a doting Dad, he also served in the military under the Navy branch and has been to every continent besides Antarctica. Walter bleeds Blue- meaning he’s a big fan of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, but his real passion is baseball; the St. Louis Cardinals are his team and he was seldom seen around our office without his Cardinals hat on. Besides being a father and sports fan, he also loves to cook and grill. On the special occasions we do get the grill out, his bacon wrapped fillets are beyond delicious and no one wants to miss out on being here.

Walter has a long road to recovery and will be in the hospital for at least 2 to 3 months, and that’s not including any future surgeries he may need. This fund has been setup to help cover any of his out of pocket medical expenses, his monthly bills such as utilities and mortgage and other expenses, and to help keep his young boys supported with anything they need while he is unable to work and recovering. Please help us support our friend and fellow Topcon employee by donating any amount you can give- nothing is too small or too big.
