Here we go again.
Today Wyatt is going in for his final surgery to complete his "Forever Heart". It has been a long road over the last 3 years, 3 months and 1 day. Wyatt was born with an AV canal defect and has had eight heart surgeries and today will make nine. Four open heart surgeries and five catheter procedures. He has been through so much for being so little. But he keeps a beautiful smile on his face and his laugh brightens everyone's day.
Wyatt was born 8 weeks premature because of complications from his mother, Liz; who struggled her young life with severe diabetes. Sadly, his mother passed away shortly after Wyatt's first birthday.
He has been a tough kid through all of his surgeries, Pediatric ICU stays and challenges along the way and he is stronger and healthier now than he has ever been.
Times like these are always stressful for the family.
His team of doctors at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children are incredible. Dr. Petterson, Dr. Leonard, and Dr. Miller have been here for us throughout this entire journey; as well as the amazing team of doctors and nurses in the PICU.
Our family has needed to temporarily relocate to Denver from Greeley, Colorado to be close to Wyatt while he is in recovery. We are told he will need to stay in the PICU for 3 weeks but possibly up to 8 weeks. His daddy Marc, myself (his step mom) and his little brother, Cyrus will all be staying close. His amazing grandma is also staying in Denver for as long as she can.
Marc is taking a lot of unpaid time off from work while Wyatt is in the hospital as well as some time once we are home to help with easing back into our home life.
