Keep Wild Ocean Whale Society Live

Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs) better known as Whales and Dolphins BC, is a non-profit society registered in the Province of British Columbia. We monitor numbers, species, sightings, migration habits, welfare and behaviour of Whales, Dolphins and Porpoise in our coastal waters. Our information, data and maps are available free and open to research and the public on line, through our regularly published Sightings Reports . Our completely volunteer driven society is totally funded by you, the public.

Our Mandate:
To raise public public awareness, respect and enthusiasm for the protection of our coastal wildlife and marine ecosystems.
To keep research information gathered openly accessible to the public at large.

Our Funding Request:
We are asking your help to fund our Real Time Wildlife Monitoring Stations, a series of publicly available live streaming web cameras and hydrophone (underwater listening device) systems to see and hear passing Cetacean activity.

The web camera must be a high quality HD, Pan-Tilt-Zoom and needs to be in a waterproof, vandal resistant housing. Both the hydrophone and camera streams will be recorded and broadcast live to the public on line.

Funding Needs:  We are looking to complete funding for the first installation scheduled for Grief Point, Powell River. To date, we have raised approximately 50% of our first installation costs through other fundraising methods.

Our goal is to install an additional two locations that will also be available to the public on line for free.

Deadlines:
We had anticipated that our fundraising efforts would generate sufficient money to cover the costs associated with our first installation. Having fallen short, we are behind the scheduled date.  Funding on this part of our request is needed as soon as possible for us to proceed.

Any funds raised above the direct costs associated with this project will go towards the second and third installations.

This means so much to all of us who volunteer and many others who are looking forward to seeing and hearing the activity going up and down our waterways. There are numerous people who subscribe to our free, on line Sightings Reports who don't live on the coast but enjoy hearing and seeing the results of our monitoring and tracking of animal movements that are taking place.

Schools will be able to utilize this wonderful teaching aide to educate our children, promoting enviromental awareness and how important it is to keep our oceans clean for all species. Additional educational benefits are in regard to species at risk, marine ecosystems and the saftey of boaters and coastal wildlife.  Our youth  will be the next advocates and future caretakers of our environment for generations to come.

We would be so grateful to share these wonderful events to educate future generations.
