Operation Black Sheep

Operation Black Sheep My name is Robert and I have had the privilege of getting to know a few local Vietnam Veterans in the local area.  I am Army Afghanistan Veteran who served with the 173rd Airborne and found making a connection with them was more than just a thank you. They want to share their stories and be heard. Some of them are still looking to find peace in their life and I want to help.

I am raising money to restore PBR 7331. 7331 is a Vietnam era boat and is one of the less than 40 PBRs in the US. Out of that 40 roughly a dozen are operational, out of that dozen only four see water every year. PBR 7331 will be a 40-hour a week spring-fall operational boat for the community and veterans to go out on and enjoy. I also want to provided a place were veterans can gather and make new friends.  Friends who can support each other throw hard times.

This means a lot to me because our Vietnam Vets deserve more then they have ever gotten. I want to provide an opportunity to celebrate who they are and what they did. One way or another I will make this happen. I want to show them that they are the real greatest generation for doing what they did with such little support. They deserve so much more and I want to take them out on the water to hear their story and show them that people do care.

I am thankful for anyone who is willing to help this cause. I am also thankful for those who gave so much and received so little in return and am glad that I can get to know each and every one of them.

Many of the Vietnam veterans who have come to the PBR have expressed their gratitude of the project. Steve Wendt is one of those veterans who has become a weekly volunteer. He has told me often that he can't believe that we are actually doing this for him or for them.

This is much more then a boat that will just sit like a museum piece. PBR 7331 will be in the water for all to enjoy with certain days just for veterans. Steve has showed pride, told stories to his daughter that she never new. The whole time that he spoke she listened with pride that her dad clearly felt for a long time .

We need your help to complete our mission. With what we received so far we have stretched to the max. However this is still a lot more to go before we can completely the mission. Please help us, we need you to help give back to our veterans. They deserve this and so much more. Steve is just one veteran, think of the many we can reach when they are able go out on a ride and find some piece and pride like Steve has.

I would like to thank everyone who has given financial support so far. Every week something to be restored on the boat is checked off the list. We have pulled the engines, fitted the entire boat with proper armor and are preparing to install it in the next few weeks. There are many other small parts on the long list of things needed but people call me almost every day and ask to help. People amaze me with their support and we have many big plans for are future.

Tomorrow is the start of our big adventure. We are going and picking up PBR 7331 and will start to restore her to original glory. We have come along way and are gaining momentum fast. I ask that if you can help please do. Things add up quickly. This is not just going to sit an a museum but will be an operational boat that you and your family, friends and veterans can come ride on in the future. Be part of helping those who gave so much for us and yet received so little.

We have all paperwork complete and will be picking up PBR 7331 next week. We are now a federally recognized non-profit and have our long term loan agreement complete. Any and all donations received have helped make this vision for help veterans a reality. We are working with local LST 393 and are excited about the future of Operation Black Sheep. Please continue help if you can.
