Venessa's Fight

Hi all,

We have bad news on the Cancer front...cancer has picked a fight with a Salinas/McNulty, it has a rough future ahead. We are planning to throw cancer a funeral in the next 6-12 months, and I'm assuming it will be an expensive wake.

In all seriousness, Venessa was recently diagnosed with Myeloma. Myeloma is form of Bone Cancer that attacks the plasma cells & bones. Venessa had noticed frequent pain and thought it was pulled muscles, which had become common in the past months (this was actually the pain in the bone developing). She continued to work and care for her five children through the pain, waiting for it to heal itself...typical Irish response :-). The pain was severe enough for her to go the the ER recently, at which point we found out what was going on. We are cautiously optimistic in this situation, and Venessa has kept a wonderful attitude toward this unforeseen life event. Unfortunately, Myeloma severely weakens the bones along with the immune system. During her treatment, Vanessa will not be able to work due to the stress on her body. The good news is that Venessa is young, she is a fighter, and this type of cancer, on a young body, has a positive remission rate.
